I just realised that the "Big Brotherhood" was taken out of the book 1984 and I believe you had a room 101 which is also from that book. So, I was just wondering if BBUK always does stuff in reference to the book

Yeah it is, very good book BTW
However, producers always say that the show has nothing to do with the book

the idea of Big brother does come from 1984 and I cant beileve I forgot about the brotherhood in 1984

It most definitely is from George Orwell's book "1984". One of the posters in thebook was "Big Brother is watching you". I understand there was some kind of legal dispute between Endemol and the estate of George Orwell, I am not sure what the result on that was though.
George Orwell according to the legend George was going to call it 1948, but the publishers (or someone else) did not want the people depressed just after or during World War II, so two of the numbers were switched to make 1984.
Today, it is not so much Big Brother, but lots of little brothers with all the CCTV surveilance that goes on to this very day.
