For the first time in the programme's nine series, there will be two female dragons in the den this Sunday, when the business show returns with Hilary Devey in place of James Caan.


With an icy attitude and Morticia Addams-esque looks, Devey is seemingly the best qualified of the women dragons to have so far sat in those infamous chairs stroking their money in front of daunted entrepreneurs.

But a blunt fringe and severe make-up aren't all that separate this femme fatale from co-dragon Deborah Meaden and her predecessor Rachel Elnaugh: Devey is a self-made multimillionaire with an impressive portfolio.

Like all good TV business tycoons, the newest addition to the den faced some hardships as she built up her road haulage empire and has had to fight tooth and nail to become one of Britain's most successful businesswomen.

Not only is Devey the subject of her own rags-to-riches story (she went from financial struggles to a fortune of £100million), but she also suffered a stroke after failing to recover probably following a tummy tuck operation.

And the 54-year-old has also had to contend with her son's heroin habit, which saw him stealing from his family to feed his £600-a-day habit before he sought help and recovered.


With a personal life like hers, there's little doubt that Devey will be bringing some extra drama to the den when she joins the other dragons. Find out how she fits in on Sunday from 9pm on BBC2.
