TimeSplitters 4 will be announced shortly, according to a report.

The latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK has said that a new entry in the first-person shooter franchise will be revealed "soon", according to Connected Consoles.

"Gun-wielding monkeys are finally making a comeback! A fourth TimeSplitters 4 title is to be announced soon," it read.

TimeSplitters 4 was rumoured to be in development earlier this year alongside a new Xbox console.

The new TimeSplitters title would feature sandbox levels, branching pathways and runs on CryEngine 3.

It would be created by series developer Crytek UK, previously known as Free Radical Design before it closed in 2008 and was bought by German publisher Crytek.

TimeSplitters began as a launch title for PlayStation 2 in 2000 and was noted for its time-travelling story, local multiplayer and cartoon visuals.

As long as Chinese Chef and Badass Cyborg are still in it then it will automatically be the best game ever.

I've suspected it's been in development for awhile now.

I hope they still have the map maker mode too

I logged 24 hours on Future Perfect playing story and multiplayer and then went back and done another 24 hours making maps. It was a fantastic map maker. It was very simplistic at a glance but you could do some great stuff with it.

I hope they keep the lego block fashion of it and not go for some messy open world Far Cry style map maker that only appears to give you more options but in fact produces far more generic results.
