We haven't seen a new installment in the True Crime series in six years, and its attempted comeback has been plagued with issues. It initially faced delays, but eventually got axed altogether by Activision. Even with its troubles, it may still see the light of day if Square Enix has anything to say about it.
The Japanese publisher recently picked up the rights to True Crime: Hong Kong, which is still in development at United Front Games. "When we first saw and got our hands on the game we fell in love with it," said Lee Singleton of Square Enix London Studios. "When we met the team at United Front Games, it was a done deal in our eyes – we instantly recognized the huge potential in the game and the team."
Despite canning the project, Activision seems happy with the outcome. Regarding the change of plans, executive Eric Hirshberg said the following: "Square Enix gets the benefit of the tremendous investment we've made in the game thus far. UFG gets to stay together and complete their vision. And gamers get to play a great game. We couldn't be more thrilled."
No release date is set for the recently-revived series.

Is this the game that was supposed to be True Crime : Hong Kong?
I was gutted when that got axed, I've seen good reviews for this, I'll hype it to the brother.

Completed it today. Up there with Journey as my GOTY so far.
Best gameplay of any open world city game, by miles.

I agree, there is some things that GTA could do with taking from this game.

Just because it's an open world city game doesn't mean it's a GTA clone. =/

It's the 3rd game in a series that is famous for being a GTA clone, hell, GTA even made fun of the series

lol, I see what you mean, though this game is a completely new IP, and different enough from True Crime to set it apart.

It is basically, at its roots, still True Crime, only reason it doesnt carry the name is because Square didnt buy the name :p

Before Activision called it True Crime it was Black Lotus, so never originally intended to be part of TC. :p

It's pretty short. I platinum'd it in 28 hours.
That along with the lack of many really epic missions prevent it from otherwise being one of the best games this generation for me. It really could have with another 10 or so missions and a few more holy **** moments.
Hope they get another shot at it with a sequel.

I've enjoyed quite a number of missions, my favourite had to be the wedding though

Yeah, that's definitely one of my favourites too. It definitely has great missions, I just feel it was a few short of being an incredible game. I'd have liked some more build up and character development too.
The soundtrack is pretty hit and miss for me, but the tracks it does hit with are amazing.
