View Full Version : Channel 5 call for Facebook Fan Pages to be shut down.

Okay so as some of you know I ran a Big Brother Facebook Fan Page since BB11 and you can view it here:
http://www.facebook.com/BB11UK
Now that one we don't use anymore, because it was for BB11.
So me and Jords owned a new one for BB in General and that was just pushing 1000 Members and it's only really been made, and now just there now Facebook closed the new page.
And give me some silly ******ing little message:
'A Page you were an Admin of has been merged - please tick this box if you understand, thank you.'
It's like Nah Bro.
And now I just found out it's happened to 3 other people who own Big Brother fan pages on Facebook.
So it's no coincidence - why are they all being shut down or sorry 'Merged' and I bet they're being merged with Channel 5's Official Page as that's gained about 2,000 Members in the past 15 Minutes.
Why are they doing this? :bored: Channel 4 didn't do this to me last Summer.
I bet they're just jealous because my fan page [and probably other fan pages] do more for the fans than their sh*tty official one.
Petty Bastards.

tbh good, because I hate it when people try and pretend that their pages are official to trick people. You're probably not one of them but it pisses me off.

They are being so bloody sly with this 'New generation of social networking connections' deleting comments and merging and all. Not at all impressed.

Thats shnakey that is
They're probably red in the face that the official page for the Big Brother relaunch only had about 18,000.

The official one now has 23K likes..

Yeah Phlip, like last year on my BB11 Page everyone some how just assumed it was official and started asking me questions - by addressing me as 'BB' lol.
But I mean I never intended to be official and when asked [like I was asked yesterday] if we were official or not, I even gave the guy a link to Channel 5's official page, the dick heads.
They're probably red in the face that the official page for the Big Brother relaunch only had about 18,000.
Exactly this.
Since they've started shutting pages they have just literally over 23,000 Members when yesterday they barely had 20,000. :idc:
They're wankers, utter wankers.
I mean today of all days to shut them down like .
They are being so bloody sly with this 'New generation of social networking connections' deleting comments and merging and all. Not at all impressed.
This.

Can you guys like write on the official one's wall or anything?
I don't know if they've blocked the Admins of the fan pages from reacting or something.

And how the hell have they got so many new likes in less then 2 hours?
Patrick
17-08-2011, 04:54 PM
And how the hell have they got so many new likes in less then 2 hours?
Because some fan pages alone had up to 1,000 odd members.
So they didn't actually close them down - what the cheeky bastards did was, they 'merged' theirs with ours, meaning they wipe all our work off and simply take our members instead. :bored:
Horrible and as Charlie said, sly.

I guess they were members of all the other groups.

I let them know on Digital Spy, and they are also furious. The more people know about this, the bigger impact it will have when Five get a nasty shock.

You can write on their wall?
So they've now actually blocked me from expressing my opinion on Big Brother this year on their wall? Fine then, I hope their sh*tty little Facebook Apps fail along with their Official page. :hmph:

According to C5:-
"We’re grateful to fans that have created blogs, websites, Facebook pages and created a buzz on Twitter. But some fans have been misled by social media activity and wrongly believe that it all authorised by Channel 5 and the Big Brother producers.
If you’re maintaining a social media fan presence for Big Brother here are our guidelines:
Make it clear you’re a fan site and that you’re unofficial
Don’t imply that you’re connected with the Big Brother production or Channel 5
We’re working closely with Facebook. If you are a fan of the show, you should create a Group (not a Page) to show your support.
You can create a group by clicking "Create Group" in the left hand column of your home page.
But you must ensure:
Your Facebook Group title clearly states you’re a fan group
Your posts do not imply that you are involved with the Big Brother production or Channel 5
Facebook’s definitions of a Group and a Page are:
Pages allow real organisations, businesses, celebrities and brands to communicate broadly with people who like them. Pages may only be created and managed by official representatives.
Groups provide a closed space for small groups of people to communicate about shared interests. Groups can be created by anyone"

Thanks for that man, at least now we know.
No one uses 'groups' these days anyways - not since Facebook changed them about. :idc:
They should of just given all the fan pages warning or something, but oh well.

If ter BB facebook pages that they're merging (or deleting or whatever...) are anything like as negative and whiney that they've been on here in the last couple of days, then I understand why they've done it.

Basically yeah.
In saying that my original BB11 one is still up - I don't know why but maybe it's only a matter of time before it's gone too, I bet they're just searching for them all and deleting.

OMG Dan.
That's ACTUALLY like an invasion of privacy in a weird way, it's like they should at least ask for your permission?
We should ******ing report them for that alone because I bet it's not just you they're doing it to, but Facebook won't listen and I also love how FB don't even have a UK Contact Number anymore because they're cowardly bastards.

Sadly next will be the sites.
I truly dont know what C5 are thinking about did they do any background search on the BBfanbase??
it seems almost like cyber crowd control.when the show launches and the setup info will be sent out on Twitter/FB and ofc the mainsite.does this mean fansites wont have a means of reporting this? and if they do clearly C5 are going to come along and tell them remove the material as its copyright of C5/Endemol.so its BB10 all over again,When a select few bigger sites get passed some nice juicy info and all others can naff off.
As it stands the LUT's are dead in the water it appears the only info they want people to talk about is via the setups they Officially run.

Will FB survive in the UK? Two young men sent to jail for comments they made terrible as they were on FB but not followed up. Sets an interesting precedent in law. Somebody threatens you on FB you dont call the admin you call the police. Could get interesting for a while.

Very good point raised on Twitter/FB earlier.
Goverment wants social Media blocked at the first sign of anymore trouble.
If that was to happen what would C5 do then?
3-4 days of downtime thats C5's grand plan right down the toilet.Lets be honest in this current climate anything could happen.
