I read that this morning, 2 to 3 million would have been a really great launch for Channel 5s CBB, but 5+ million is phenomonal.

Lostie!

It's surprising, I expect it to drop down to 1-2 million per night now though. I imagine when the deal runs out C5 might opt to keep CBB with figures like that.

*mazedsalv**
19-08-2011, 09:08 AM
I don't think tonight will do too bad, all the BB related status's from my friends were pretty much jizzing over the fact that Jedward, Amy and Tara were there. Let's not forget that Jedward were watched by around 15m people.

and they did a lot of advertising but time will tell now the real show has begun and so many are complaing they cant see it

Whats ven more impressive is that apparently according to a DS post, the first 5 mins only averaged 3.63m, and it rose dramatically to 6m at 10pm, an hour later!

The ratings will obviously drop. CBB7's launch night got something crazy like 6.7m if I remember correctly and yet the series average was just 3.7m. The launch is always more popular than the series average.

Live feed will not affect the ratings though. 80k people bought live feed last year - that's less than 100,000, it won't even take a .1 off the ratings (and that's assuming all those 80k people abandon the show - I was one of those people and i'll still be watching this year!).

The reality show rated a massive +3.8m and +295% higher than Channel 5’s Thursday slot average of 1.3m (5.81%) so far this year, whilst Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit On The Side outperformed Channel 5′s usual 0.8m slot average by +1m and +126%. It meant that Channel 5’s All-Day share rocketed up to 7.4% yesterday, ahead of Channel 4’s 6.7%, and a growth of +95% compared to last Thursday. Thanks to Big Brother’s appeal among younger viewers, Channel 5 experienced an ever bigger week-on-week increase of +176% with viewers aged 16-34 to 10.5%, once again ahead of rival-broadcaster Channel 4 (8.5%) and even ITV1 (10.2%).

Only about 1% of the audience ever watched the live feed, so that won't effect the ratings.

http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/ratings/c5s-big-brother-debut-is-ratings-smash/5031007.article

THURSDAY: The high profile launch of Big Brother on Channel 5 attracted the station’s third biggest audience ever.

A celebrity version of the former Channel 4 vehicle got proceedings underway for the Richard Desmond-owned broadcaster, with names including Kerry Katona, Sally Bercow and Jedward entering the famous Elstree residence.

The show, fronted by former contestant Brian Dowling, was watched by an average audience of 5.16m (22.13%) on C5 between 9pm and 10.30pm.

It peaked with 6m (25.72%) in the five minute period from 9.55pm, according to overnight Barb figures supplied by Attentional.

It could not match the debut audience of 5.9m (20.97%) for C4’s celebrity version last year, but trumped the launch of C4’s standard series for the past two years. The main show debuted with 4.57m (19.6%) in 2010 and 4.79m (22.12%) the year before.

C5’s biggest audience in its 14-year history remains England’s Euro 2000 qualifier against Poland on 8 September 1999, which pulled in a consolidated audience of 5.63m viewers. Next in line was movie Independence Day with 5.41m on 7 September 1999, according to the broadcaster’s figures.

This means Big Brother is C5’s best performing piece of commissioned content outside of sport and films and its ratings are likely to increase once consolidated viewing is taken into account.

The slot winning performance saw Big Brother build its audience from 4.49m (18.2%) in the first 15 minutes to 5.59m (26.1%) in the penultimate quarter of an hour of the show. In the final 15 minutes, the audience declined slightly to 4.77m (23.3%) after all the celebrity contestants had entered the house.

The highest proportion of the show’s viewers (1.12m / 21.8%) were aged between 35 and 44 and just under two thirds (3.34m / 64.9%) were women.

Overall, it was four times C5’s slot average of 1.29m (5.81%) viewers for the year to date.

The main event was followed by Emma Willis-fronted spin-off Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side, which attracted 1.82m (13.2%) viewers over the hour from 10.30pm. The sideways glance at the night’s activity also trounced C5’s slot average of 803,500 (5.77%) for 2011 so far.

Seems like we are missing so much without the Live Feed for CBB! :(

It's what the show is about.. putting 12/14 or god knows how many "strangers", "nobodies" into a house and viewing them 24 7.

I might forgive a little for CBB but if it's not back for BB12 I am afraid it will fail!!

PLEASE Big Brother! Give us 24 7 Live Feed for BB12.

Totally agree with you Beastie.

No they will use this a reason not to have Live Feed
saving money on extra staff.

It a Real Pain
as Big Brother needs some Live Feed
or they can Corrupt the Whole show by Edits.

Even that 2nd show with Emma
had no solid live Feed.

All due to saving money on staff that would work 24/7 shifts
to give Live Feed.

I would pay £10 a week for Live feed.

That is a wonderful start for a Channel that could only have dreamed of such ratings before they took over the show. If they can get the programmes around it sort to capture the same audience as watches BB then they could be onto a real winner.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens. I wish them well. It could show how short sighted Channel 4 has been giving up the show in the first place.

They NEED Live Feed for BB12. Yes even for BB12's launch night I bet they will get good ratings but after a week viewers will lose interest. In the long run they need LIVE Feed 24 7! Especially for BB12 which is a longer series..

Oh yeah actually, the 6 million figure does. The BBC were just giving the 5.1m viewing figure and then they said that was down on last years series launch

It is a great figure and also taking into account this wasn't on Channel 4 this year but on a lesser watched Channel it makes the figures even more encouraging.

Channel 4 were likely thinking no more than 2 to 2.5 million would tune in,well they got a shock, really with the limits they put on what could be broadcast, they were the main reasons BB was going down anyway.
Hopefully Channel 5 will restore more of the freedoms removed while on Channel 4 in the latter few series, (following the Shilpa/Jade mess).

Patrick

Im worried now tho lol, we'll hear tonights ratings and they'll have dropped to >1m because of no sheen or Pammie.

No Dick head actually tuned in for Pamela  She's rumoured every year.

But yes, we'll probably loose about 2 Million of them - bringing us down to 4 Million, because of Charlie Sheen not appearing.

And then lack of live feed, that'll probably knock the ratings down to about 2 Million.

Their own fault though.

Beastie

The highest proportion of the show’s viewers (1.12m / 21.8%) were aged between 35 and 44 and just under two thirds (3.34m / 64.9%) were women.

^^^^

Wow.. so less of the teeny boppers are watching? See! It's an ADULTS SHOW!

This also gives me more faith that Sally has a good chance at winning. Doubt many teeny boppers would vote for her but people aged between 35-44 probably would! :)

Firewire

joeysteele
19-08-2011, 05:06 PM
Bound to be lower, even on Channel 4 the ratings went down after we knew who was in.

Having said that, with no other programming as such to BB yet, this is the only way to catch up so it may be a good many more tune in.

Harry!
