Steve Jobs has now died aged 56. Statement from Apple: http://www.apple.com/stevejobs/

----------------------------------
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has stepped down from his role amid health problems.

Statement:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

Class act. Thanks for creating the world's greatest consumer electronics company. Brilliant man who will be part of history for generations. i'm writting this on my iMac, and my iPod touch is charging, and my iMac is connected to the internet through my Time Capsule Wifi router. Apple II was the first computer i used and i'll always love logo the turtle.

This is so sad. The man was an absolute legend. Though he was arrogant at times, the way he brought Apple into being a worldwide giant from being nearly bankrupt in just ten years is incredible.

This is so awful. RIP.

It's really not early, he's been living with a type of cancer for many years that usually kills people in less than a year. So he fought it bravely.

brave man, flawed in many ways as we are all flawed, but truly a great innovator, a great visionary. Like the John Lennon once said "there would be no Beatles if there was no Elvis". I believe Steve is the Elvis of computers, and i can't wait to see the new Beatles inspired by him.

Shame.

Although I strongly dislike the bastards who work for Apple because they are money grabbing and think they are something, I do appreciate the work this bloke did.

As Niall said he turned the company round in 10 Years from going bankrupt to being worth more than America's government [something like that].

RiP Man.

How are they money grabbing Paddy. IMO they are one of the most generous companies.

The iPhone 4S is a prime example of the fact they're money-grabbing tbh, as cool as it looks it really is the same with Siri and a slightly upgraded camera yet they made it out to be a lot more with that fancy tech stuff. It's really not that big. But people will be convinced and want one. I'd like one of them, but if I had an iPhone 3GS or 4 I would stick to that.

Yea I agree, it's not a big leap, but it's the same as from the 3G to the 3GS. It's not realistic or feasible for you to expect a completely redesigned product every year.

And it's actually a bigger jump than you might think. The test pictures are amazing and the Siri stuff looks like the future, if admittidly a bit awkward. :joker:

Tbh I think it is geared to those on 2 year contracts who want to upgrade from the 3GS to get iOS and the a5 chip.

I think they are generous because if you break your product just take it to the store, be nice and 9.9/10 they will replace it free of charge regardless of warranty. Also eg the iPad. Notice how no other company (the kindle fire excluded) cannot make an iPad experience for apple price.

Their products aren't all that unaffordable anymore and for the amount they give away, their amazing customer service and the experience of their devices i feel the prices are justified.

I dont like the look of Siri, its just pointless. I'll just check the weather app on my iPhone 4 rather than speak to the phone like a twat for the sake of saving 2 seconds

Their customer service is appalling at the 2 stores near me.

Patrick lives in Belfast. Not governed by the Irish government. Also your sentence sounds just so hopelessly retarded.

Well done on fulfilling two popular stereotypes of American people.
