Hi everyone asking about the Live Feed, it has been amazing to see so many of you are passionate and enthusiastic about the show. The feedback - positive and negative - has been passed on. And although a live feed has been carefully considered - there are currently no plans to bring it back on-air or online, for Celebrity or normal Big Brother. If this changes we'll post it here first.

From the Official BB Facebook page.

Let's hope it's coming back, they aren't going to stop until it does. And it isn't going to get any better until it does either.

The feedback - positive and negative - has been passed on.

This is official for reAL!? I really thought they were just gonna go with this experiment for CBB, and switch back to normal live feed in the normal BB! IF thats not the case, I am sorry, but I cant get interested in the show, with people I dont know at all.
Live feed is definitely necessary for the normal BB.

Oh well! I dont think I will be watching. CAnt see me getting interested at all without Live feed. I am sure some people can, but.....

Definitely! There is nothing about strangers, that will work for a BB without Live feed. At least you knew the celebrities, but in this case, it would be like The Hills or Jersey shore. It will get good ratings for the launch and first highlight, but then nose dive to less than a million!

Keep pushing, one 'no' can be changed to make sure it's not the final 'no'.

Persistence can and often does pay off in the end. I don't care if we have live feed or not and CBB is getting good ratings os around 2.5 million+ but I will keep e mailing, writing to them etc to ask for live feed as I will support those who do want it.

The show is dying a slow horrible death they need to change things and quickly the viewing figures seem to have held up ok but its becoming an effort to stay interested.

I am not as bothered about BB as I used to be, but do feel sorry for those who love watching BB. The live feed is so needed to get even an inkling of what is going on in the BB house. CBB is a short run so not so bad, although bad enough without having live feed. But the proper BB 'needs' live feed. It doesn't have to be 24/7, just a reasonable amount would keep fans happy enough I'm sure.

I just don't understand C5's problem with providing live feed, which I am sure most fans would be happy to pay for. I watched launch night, but decided against bothering with twitters selective tidbits of CBB or the selective videos also, if they had live feed I would at least have given CBB a watch, but have decided to stick to reading the forums instead and leave it at that.

We need to keep pestering them until they confirm it for the main series at least. I posted this in the comments.

If there is no live feed for at least the regular series starting in September, there is going to be an outrage from fans. You have seen the overwhelmingly negative response to there being no live feed, so why aren't you doing anything about it? You've debated on the issue, yet still have decided against it, WHY? Fans have made it more than clear the show is not Big Brother without a live feed. All other Big Brother's throughout the world have a live feed. It's absolutely ridiculous how a show whose format is revolved so largely around it's fanbase would ignore an issue like this that is so largely demanded by fans who love the show. The Live Feed has been a MASSIVE part of the shows success throughout the past 10 years because it gets fans more involved and passionate. Without it there is a major disconnect.

Why cant they give us at least nightly feed? :(

By the time the feed would be on air they probably would just be the snoring to watch.

Interesting the live feed is also edited if you think about how it. They get to pick which camera we see on the live feed and thus who we are watching, who we are listening and what we are allowed to hear etc.... It is hardly an uncensored view of the house and what goes on inside. Then there is a time delay of 15 minute to 30 minutes and no clocks in the house, which means they could without the audience knowing show any footage they like if something big is going off.

I agree the live feed would be good for those that want it and I would like Channel 5 to come clean as to why they are not providing one, but at the end of the day it is probably the only show that has had a live feed in recent years. You don't see the get me out of here fans saying they want 24/7 coverage or they will stop watching!

There are some decent conversations to tune into and mischief if were lucky some nights. They could encourage HMs to stay up with more 24 hour tasks too.

Getting the house mates to stay up through the night works in the main BB but with the celebrity BB, I think they would be pointing at their contracts. I know what you are saying about the late night feed, and I know stuff happens in the wee hours but is that enough for them to lose the revenue though losing their gambling stuff they are probably contracted to show? As fans of the show I know we would say yes, but they must think differently.

I agree they they hold all power on what we see but I really dont think theyd skip something essential.

I have known them to miss stuff in the past especially when they don't think they getting much for the highlights show or at the start when they are looking for drama and it is all lets be best friends.

I have always thought if we are going to have a live feed at all we need cameras to pick from like they use to do when I watched the US feed years ago on realplayer. They had 4 different views of the house and you just followed the house mates you were interested in, plus an interactive message box.

The forum is so dead compared to last year, we need some live feed!

I know what you mean about the forum being dead without the feed when show isn't on air. It is fun talking about stuff on the feed and it can be exciting breaking the news to TiBB as it happens, but at least we have Big Brother on the air again. If the channel hadn't taken it then that could have been the end of that and the place would be even quieter than it is now.

I think they're lying, of course they are working on getting it for BB12, they probably just want to make it seem like its not coming back so when it does all the fans love Ch5...

I wouldn't hold your breath. I think there is more behind why they won't give us the feed than we know. It could be a mixture of reasons including the technical side of the things, the computing infrastructure and the staffing of the show especially.

If they could just provide a feed at a drop of a hat they would have done it by now. They can't and I just wish they would be honest and explain why.

I'm really dissapointed with CH5. :(

I was willing to watch CBB without live feed and campaign in hope that BB12 would have LF.
Admittedly you cannot get a 100% accurate picture of HM's with the LF but the whole point of the feed was to be able get to know the housemates better and interact on a deeper level. Watching CBB at present and I cannot even feel like I know any of the HM's , even on a superficial level. This new format is not working for me and from other FM's I see similar feelings and comments.

I'll stay with CBB for now but I won't be voting and when BB12 screens I'll give it a go but I cannot in all honesty say I will stick with it.

CH5 really have let the fans down and I hope they are happy with the show they have at present but I can see that the ratings may well slip very quickly.

I agree it is harder to know them and it takes longer to get to know, especially with the shorter CBB format, but with the long BB format there are still hours and hours of coverage.

Playing devils advocate for a second, in 12 weeks you will end up watching over 80 hours of television. That is about 20 hours less than watching Eastenders for a year. It's not like you don't know the characters in Eastenders and people don't demand a live feed of the soaps!

How much of getting to know them did you get from the forums, news articles online or newspapers? its really shortsighted to say that because so much of the BB chatter came from the live feed.

Are people really willing to dumb down to the point where they accept that a housemate must of packed a wedding dress in their suitcase? or is it more logical that a daily meeting was held with producers and the people in there and it was suggested to them?

How much of getting to know them did you get from the forums, news articles online or newspapers? its really shortsighted to say that because so much of the BB chatter came from the live feed.

I watched the whole of BB11 (just the highlights shows) without the forum. I don't buy newspapers and I can't remember reading them on line as I get most of my news from the BBC website or BBC 5 live. I never felt I didn't know the people in the house. Yes it might have taken longer to get to know them but it didn't make me feel disappointed and I didn't know their characters.

Yes the live feed generates a lot of chatter and banter on here during the day, but the site is at it's busiest when the highlights show is on, because that is what most people watch.

You also have to remember that Channel 5 will know uptake of the live feed from Channel 4. They will have data on how many people brought into the feed and how many people watched it and when. They will then have weighed the income against the cost of providing the service. If there is no clear profit there is no feed.

Now I why I want Channel 5 to come clean is that there is probably a simple answer to why they are not providing it. I still think that providing a live feed would require investment in networking infrastructure that isn't in place. The cost of investment makes it uneconomic to provide the feed when the company has little use for it after BB has come off the air. If this is the case and they come clean then other companies who have the networking infrastructure already in place might come forward to provide the feed for them at a price, however they won't while Channel 5 is in cover up mode.

billy123
26-08-2011, 11:58 AM
The live feed infrastructure was provided by an outsourced company and had an uptake of 86,000 people which generated an income of over £1 million and was confirmed by channel 4 to have generated a profit.
If you phone C5 and ask them they will tell you that its because they want to take the show in a different direction and that doesnt include a live feed.
So from what we have seen so far that direction must mean having meetings with the housemates and guiding them into what they want to happen.
Thats about as far from the spirit of big brother that you can get its trashy and false.
Im not revelling in the state of the show i feel gutted.

I agree with all of this. I never watched live feed and I honestly didn't realise how much stuff I picked up only from the forum. You've only got to see how the forum's died down to realise not having live feed has had a really negative impact. If they don't bring it back for the non-celeb BB, I think it'll be the death knell for the whole show.

Well may be the don't feel they will get the uptake that Channel 4 got in the past and the profit levels were low. I guess we will never know unless they tell us straight, but like you said:

If you phone C5 and ask them they will tell you that its because they want to take the show in a different direction and that doesnt include a live feed.

Clearly that is up to them, but I think we are all forgetting that there would have been no Big Brother on UK television at the moment if it wasn't for Channel 5. They brought the rights to air the show and the right to put there stamp on it. Without them it just wouldn't exist but as a memory.

So from what we have seen so far that direction must mean having meetings with the housemates and guiding them into what they want to happen.

Do we have evidence of there being meeting as such where the producers tell them what to do? There is a lot of talk about scripting going on which the follow up show was making fun of the other night and rightly so. I don't think they would script it. One of the Celebrities would spill the beans as soon as they got out of the house for the cash and press coverage. It just not going to happen.

Thats about as far from the spirit of big brother that you can get its trashy and false.

Any messing with the show is going to upset the BB purists but it has changed year in and year out. It is nothing like the show that it was when it started that was billed as a human experiment. It is much more of a game show by the time it ended on Channel 4, with house mates being players rather subjects. May be Channel 5 are just taking that side of it a bit further than Channel 4 did.

The show has to keep developing or it will become stale and lifeless as a format and people will turn off.

Im not revelling in the state of the show i feel gutted.

I can understand how many people feel gutted, and how not having a live feed affects the forum and their enjoyment of the show, but if it not going to happen it is no good going on and on about it. You can only do what you can done and if Channel 5 don't want it you will never get it. You can't force their hand.

If 86,000 people turn off so what, that still leaves them 2.3 million or so viewers.

They will have done enough market research to know the changes won't have a massive effect on the audience numbers and the production company won't let them do to much that affects the ratings and possibility of having their contract renewed in two years time.

I keep thinking they are moving the show towards the "get me out of here" style of programming with the house mates commenting on the tasks etc with Big Brother as the interviewer, not sure if I like it yet, but I willing to live with it and have Big Brother on the TV again.

Moon 86,000 viewers were the subscriber numbers that the live feed attracted and were clearly stated to show that your claim of lack of live feed was financially motivated wasnt right im not looking to disagree with you just stating a fact.
So what if 86k turn off they will still have 2.3million is just a daft thing to say i get the overly defensive thing i really do but ???????????

Im not one to pick posts apart sentence by sentence and ignore the context but you also conveniently ignored the origin of the wedding dress.

I was just making it easier to follow, and I'm sorry if you felt I was picking on your post by quoting it in that way.

My thinking goes along lines that maybe they don''t think they will get similar numbers, and they will historical trend data on the live feed take up. If general audience numbers has fallen over the years it would be safe to conclude that is likely that so as the number of subscribers to the live feed. We don't know what the profit level is like and we don't know what the break even point is, in terms of subscriber numbers.

We are all guessing in the dark, however I concede their might be a profit to be made, but as you said channel 5 wants to make the show there own and that doesn't include a live feed from what you have been told so it is academic. They are clearly happy with the format they have decided to adopt and we can't do much about it.

I think it is foolish that a minority of people think they have power over television companies and that voting with their feet, as people have said they will do on here and other forums, will really affect what the mainstream viewers watch.

Yes, they are right to put their view and in this case they have a good point, but at the end of the day they are the ones broadcasting and running the show. If they say no that is that.

Yes we can be disappointed in the direction the company is going with the show but that is up to them. They are the ones that commissioned the series.

I would like to see a live feed but if that is not going to happen we can either moan about it or just get on with enjoying what we have. I hope the channel changes its mind. I think if there is a profit to be made they should go for it.

****e, utter ****e.

I'll watch on as BB quickly vanishes into extinction, hope Channel 5 learn their lesson, FFS all they show during the night on 5* is teleshopping, surely BB Live is better than that?
