View Full Version : Should I let my kitten fall in the bath?

I know this question sounds really cruel, but its the only way I can see her learning. When I go in the bath, if I shut the door the cat goes mental, scratches the door, and trashes the place basically. if I leave the door open shes fine. But she tries to jump in the bath with me/onto the side of the bath and its starting to really piss me off. Im thinking the best way to stop her is to, instead of putting my arm up to stop her getting/falling in, just let it happen? Im pretty sure once she did it she wouldnt try it again. But I feel a bit horrible as I know she will hate it, and I doubt bubblebath is very good for her skin :/

I know this is a very odd question, and maybe the best way would be to just shut the door and let her get on with it...or even restrict her to the kitchen when Im in the bath or something, but I dont like locking her in a room. Feels nasty to me :bored:

Mine did it once and didn't learn. Just tried again. Plus he got very chilly and could have drown. I'm afraid I'd say leave her downstairs or outside the door. She will stop scratching the door eventually. Oscar did when he got older :)

Vicky: is it that you don't want her in the bathroom or on the side of the bath or it fear that something will happen if she falls in? If the latter.... let her find her own way.... she will either love it or loathe it.... and if she loathes it....be prepared for a few serious scratches if she uses your body as leverage to get out of the bath quickly!!! You have been warned!! :D

Some cats (very few, but some) don't mind baths. She's curious. Long as you don't leave her unattended in case she struggles to get back out of the water, she'll be fine :)

Some cats actually like water,we have one that sits on the edge of the bath playing with the water when it's on,lol,I was always told they didn't like water,so I either have a unique cat or it is a myth,it does seem a shame to let her fall in,but as long as your there to fish her out if necessary, she'll be ok.lol at least then you will know if she likes it or not.

I dont care about her being in the bathroom with me at all, and Im not too bothered about something happening to her if she falls in either to be honest, as she wont drown or anything.. I am slightly concerned about the effects of the bubblebath on her skin though.

I expect scratches if I let it happen, its kinda inevitable.

I guess it could be a good way to find out how shes going to react if we decide to actually bath HER though.

Now that kerry said her cat didnt learn, and everyone mentioning about some cats liking water, Im a bit worried that if I let her come in, she will want to come in with me everytime D:

Ach I think she'll most likely have a nosey and decide it's not for her!! Then you won't need to be concerned about the bubblebath on her skin. As you say: try her out ... let us know how you/she get on !! :)

they are cute huh!

I have to leave my shower head placed down in the bath with a little trickle constantly flowing - eejit features likes to drink from there rather than her bowl.

She nearly got caught out one night - had a bath run.... muppet features jumps up ready to jump in..... cue one major balacing act from one shocked kitty!!! LOL :joker:

No, Oscar didn't learn. Then again, he's not the brightest :D

He hates water though cos I have a water pistol to squirt him with when he's norty. He never learns from that either but he shifts at the time :joker:

I do that with jess too :D I dont even have to squirt it anymore to get her to stop whatever shes doing, she just has to hear me pick the bottle up and she hides

She hates when she actually gets squirted, but Im thinking she may be slightly different with warm water, it might just be the shock and the cold that she doesnt like

Yeah same here. Just pick it up and he sprints off with a meow of protest  Trouble is if he's been really naughty I chase him

On the subject of things feline...any of you tried those Dreamies titbits with your moggies?

Mine is a fussy little madam, and never eats any treats - until I tried her with these.

Getting to the stage now that the wee buggar won't eat her dinner if she knows there are Dreamies within sniffing distance.

I tried one myself (I know, I know!!!!!) - they taste like hell but they are super crunchy!! :joker:

I dont know what the treats I get are called, all I know is they sell them in morrisons and are in a tub shaped like a cat

I'll try and remember to have a look tomorrow, but in general my kitty will eat anything I give her. The only thing she wont eat so far is tuna ( ) and the snacks that also clean their teeth.

Are they the shape of a cat's head? If so, i think they are Whiskas ones?

Tesco were doing Dreamies for a £1 a pack and they last ages.

Yup, the tub is like a cats head.

I havent shopped at tescos for a while, was actually planning on doing next weeks shop there because everytime I go, I seem to be getting less and less actual shopping, but for more money from morrisons. might try her on some of them if I remember about them.
