Right I need some help

I downloaded photoshop the other day and have been trying to use it since and it just isn't happening. But I need to know just one thing:

How do I cut something from one photo and add it onto another? When I use the lasso tool thing and try to drag it across it just doesn't work :bored:

I think after you do the lasso tool, you right click inside the selected bit and pick cut, actually maybe I'm wrong.

I don't even know what the lasso tool is. I just place one photo on to the other and use the magic wand to highlight the bits I don't want and erase them with the eraser thing.

It's easy if the backround of the photo is just all one colour. Highlight it with the magic wand, brush it out with the eraser and she's gone. If it has too many colours I often ditch the magic wand out of impatience and manually start erasing the backround around the persons head which I'm not very good at so next thing you know Nicholas Cage is missing a finger and has all sorts of odd dips in his otherwise beautiful hair.

It is far too confusing. I've found myself wanting to smash my laptop up about ten times over the past 2/3 days, I've given up on it now.

I ended up on a youtube video getting directions, but just listen to the commentary :joker:

I was hoping it would be a relaxing voice. I love looking up random YouTube tutorials to get videos where the person has a nice voice.
