I never got that saying, what else are you supposed to do with cake? Not much point in having cake if you can't eat it too :conf:

Yea it doesn't make sense at all.
I'll see if I can find where it comes from,

Thank you Claudia:D
Sometimes I like to just stare at my cake... caress it and just genuinely adore it. But I can't have it because that'll be rape..

It comes from 1546 ish "wolde you bothe eate your cake, and have your cake?"
and it originally means that you can't eat your cake twice.

I think it's like, you can eat your cake, but you can't eat it later as well.
But it's just said in a way that no longer means that.

Another stupid saying. "Look before you leap".

It means you like can't be greedy I think? The context I heard it used in was on 8 Simple Rules (a sitcom) and one of the characters was cheating on her boyfriend and her sister said to her, "You can't do that, you can't have your cake and eat it too." or something along those lines.

No, I know what it means. I just mean that the actual phrase itself doesn't make any sense.
