A Bulgarian senior citizen has enrolled in his first day at school.

According to BTA, Apostol Stoyanov, from the village of Popovtski, has enrolled in the first grade at a local school in Gabrovo.

The 78-year-old never went to school as a child, and claims that he is almost completely illiterate.

Despite admitting that he is "scared" at the idea of learning maths, Stoyanov said that he is looking forward to the experience.

Stoyanov began his classes alongside 430 other first-graders on Thursday, but in future will study as a private student without regularly scheduled lessons.

I may be wrong but 78 is a little late for a career change.

Good on him, don't know the circumstances behind why he's left it this long but wish him all the best with it.
