The X Factor live shows will kick off with a two-and-a-half-hour broadcast on October 8.

This weekend, viewers will see Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh choose their finalists during the Judges' Houses stage of the competition.

Reports previously claimed that the current series could include three-hour live shows. Last year, the first live show ran for two hours and 40 minutes, and featured a twist which saw four wildcard competitors unveiled. It has not been confirmed if a similar twist will take place during the current series.

According to Radio Times listings, the first live show will run from 7.30pm to 10pm on Saturday, October 8, with the results show following on Sunday, October 9 from 8pm to 9pm. Ratings winner Downton Abbey will continue its second series following the results show at 9pm

As with previous winners, Matt Cardle is expected to return to perform his new single 'Run For Your Life'. Other musical guests and a theme for the first show have still to be announced.

Yesterday, ITV confirmed that 49-year-old Goldie Cheung has withdrawn from the competition, after mentor Louis Walsh chose her as one of his finalists.

The X Factor continues with a Judges' Houses double bill this weekend on ITV1.

:o

Too long imo, shoulda been 2 hours max, they always to ridiculous amounts of recapping that's never really necessary

Overkill. I hope they get some good guests for the results show though, Matt Cardle is not someone to look forward to.

I see Rihanna's strategy now, releasing new material just in time for the promotional juggernaut that is the XF Results show. No doubt she will perform within the first few weeks.

And if you record it and flick through the ads, you'll probably get through it in around 1 hr 40 mins.

I don't think she can, I checked her LOUD tour dates and she only has two opportunites, nov 20th and finale night

But idk if they'd want her on two finales in two years

Oh FGS, They really do think they are something don't they.

2 Hours, I mean what the ******?
They can't just be normal like any other show, they have to try and make themselves seem bigger than they are, and I love how they assume the public will sit through 2.5 Hours of that sh*t.

Then again, the delusional idiots who arse lick the boy bands and acts on the show, year after year - would sit through 5 hours of it.

Oh yeah I completely forgot she's on tour. If she has an opportunity though i'm sure she wouldn't say no. Otherwise it'll mostly be past contestants performing, considering there is already about 8 of them lined up to perform.

Biggest tv show in the country, kinda IS something, if it was BB you wouldn't be complaining :idc:

It's literally gonna be an ex contestant every week along with the star performer :/

Will probably record the first 45 minutes then start watching and skip the adverts, narrow the show down to just over 2 hours

I'm sure they will make a slot for Rihanna even if it means her performing on the Saturday show instead. They've had her on three times before, chances are they will want to book her again.

Well three guaranteed performances:
Matt Cardle - Run For Your Life
JLS - Take A Chance On Me
Cher Lloyd - With Ur Love

Kelly Clarkson could be a possibility as Mr Know It All is released next month. :amazed:

I think they'll get her on otherwise MKIA is probably going to flop.

Alexandra Burke and Pixie Lott will probably perform too.

What Do You Take Me For and a new single from Alexandra are due October/November.

I can't see Leona performing on XF USA and UK, although she needs to if she wants her next single to get anywhere in the charts.

I would love to see Jennifer Lopez perform Papi but that's very unlikely to happen, especially due to her commitment to American Idol.

One Direction and The Wanted are guaranteed and maybe Jessie J towards the back end of the series as Who You Are is due to be released in November.

Don't they print this every year? Last years was two and a half hours with a silly twist involved. The press office must have stock articles for this show now. Same "controversies" and "news" every time.

I hope she does, tbf it's the biggest type of UK promo you can get so I can't see her management being too picky about it, plus she performed on X Factor France. Jessie J for sure, I'd say all the artists they featured in Boot Camp (Katy, Gaga, Jessie, Florence) will most likely perform. Maybe not The Script because I don't think they have a single to promote.

However in BB we would be watching ongoing footage as to new things the housemates were doing, with X Factor no matter how long they make the show the fact remains that all the acts can still only sing the one song and no other in all that time. They are barely actually singing for longer than just under 3 minutes each anyway.

One hour and 45 minutes is really the most sensible and maximum time needed for this, that should even allow plenty of time for comments and adverts too.
