Oh, the memories!!

Had to be one with the 'hexagonal' shape to it: none of the smooth ones - they were frustrating!

Worse - was knocking the plastic recording strips off - to protect it from being taped over: to find some git had covered the holes with cellotape to reuse it. :cloud:

as Rare Gigs or Rare Remixes are sometimes only on them.

I then transfer it to a 24bit CD.

Betamax never took off at all eh..... it's the long cords I recall for the 'remote control' - a remote that had to be physically plugged in to use.

No, it was because despite Betamax having superior quality, there were numerous drawbacks. Recording times were shorter and the equipment was generally more expensive. One of the primary issues in the cost for equipment being in favor of VHS was that JVC had licensed out the VHS tech to other companies, which meant other companies were having to compete with each other to create lower priced products.

Despite having better vertical resolution(in the first variant), Betamax was limited to an hour recording time. Another variant came out with a longer recording time, but it came at the cost of decreased vertical resolution(240, just like VHS). Later on there was a 290 variant, but Betamax was out of the game.

Betamax was actually used for a long time in the video production industry, only to be phased out by the introduction of HD.

Yes both audio and VHS.

I also had a pen handy if the tape needed winding back after it came loose.

Oh yeah. Winding them on with pens haha. Trouble is, I'd get impatient and sit idly spinning the cassette around with one hand, tape twirling in the air, only for it to at some point fly across the room

Yes! Regardless of all of the above, Betamax didn't take off as far as the domestic brown goods market was concerned - which fms here would have been part of, rather than on a commercial or professional level.

I had the Teletubbies song on tape for some reason even though I was about 8 when it came out

I remember I needed a tape to record something so I stole my mums Celine Dion tape and put sellotape over the square on the top. That didn't go down well :joker:

this is like a trip down memory lane!!! LOL

The one video I was completely gutted about some arse putting tape over to reuse it: was a rare interview with George Michael on Jonathan Ross (I'm going back like about 26 years ago). God, I'm sure I can even recall the month July (19th? rings a bell). :o It was the first TV showing of the vid "I want your sex". I was ready to slit my wrists as I utterly adored him.

Was anyone else lucky enough to have a stereo with 2 tapes so you could record from one tape to another? that was as good as it got! you could make your own mix tapes or record them for other people and feel like god!

There was also the horrifying moment when you were taping off the radio and the tape came to the end, so you had to take it out and flip it over to the other side as quickly as possible!!!!

These kids with MP3s and CD burners don't know what they've missed out on ... and thats said as a 22 year old!

Just saw some old cassette tapes online and all the memories came back …

When one failed and spewed all the damn tape out and you had to get a pencil or a certain shaped biro to wind it all back up again !!

I used to buy the top quality ones as I was ( still am) a perfectionist ..

How many of these did you use / have ??

I recall using BASF , TDK , Maxell .
The Fuji look really familiar as well

Yes I Have a rare recording's on Cassette
I transfer them to a CD Audio Disc.

Then on a Tascam
Upgrade the recording to 24bit.

Cassettes have a long history
kept in a case, they are still played.

I didn’t realise that these tapes were from my grandparents but reading this back makes me so happy

I also remember them playing Dusty Springfield but I don’t know if that was on a CD or not

Memories are so precious

It’s fascinating how songs and even tastes can trigger past memories/experiences

Kerry

I had a little sad smile when I saw this yesterday. She was lovely, wasn't she. And funny...

I felt that pang of sadness when I saw who posted it, too.

It blows my mind how cruel the world can be sometimes.

I always wonder how her daughter is doing

The first single I ever bought was a cassette from Woolworths.

Chef’s Chocolate Salty Balls from South Park! It went to #1 too I believe!! :joker:

Yeah cassettes seem to be having a bit of a renaissance again in the same way vinyl has. Many top artists have (sometimes limited edition, only a few made) album cassettes now on their websites!
