OK, so some of the ways they use to sway us are glaringly obvious like the sob stories etc. But some of them we don't even realise. Take that Irish girl Melanie for example, I was glad she didn't get through, I never thought she was great from first day but maybe she was and the producers didn't want us to know how good she was.
Her mother was interviewed on an Irish radio station this morning and apparently the song they showed her singing on her first audition wasn't the first song she sang for the judges, she said that after she sang her first song, which was a Jennifer Hudson song, all 4 judges gave her a standing ovation and glowing comments then Kelly asked her to sing another song, which is what they showed.
Now, like I said I didn't like her that much anyway but it would make you wonder what they cut out and stuff to brain wash us into liking who they want us to like. I need to stop watching this crap. Seriously.
Yeah I read in a local paper last month that Jade sang another song which went down well but they asked her to sing again (so she sang Someone Like You) and that's what was shown... and it's weird because the editing always looks so smooth and as if they only sing one song, unless they sing it badly, isn't it weird? It's so staged... I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching the program, but I feel so bad for the contestants who are edited badly.

Yeah, I know BB is the same too. The difference I suppose is I love BB so much more than X Factor!

Yeah, I agree 100%, I also have a niggling feeling that the same will happen with Big Brother if they carry it on without L/F for the next series :bawling:

Most contestants sing twice IIRC, it gives them room to edit. Just watch X Factor as the piss-take it is, it's much more fun that way.
Kitty and her glowy leotards ftw.

yeah, I'll have to develop that attitude if I'm going to continue watching it I think!

The Irish girl - Melanie - This was the other song that she sung for her audition and I have to say it's probably one of the best auditions I've heard in a long time.
A5MWQENRqYU Shame they didn't show it though :(

Of course they do this. This show isn't about actual talent, it's about who they can market the best to make the most money.

Can't listen to it right now Lewis but thanks for posting it. It would just make you wonder why they didn't show it though if it was that good.
And Ben, Melanie is young, good looking and talented, I would have thought she'd be a marketable candidate

But with Amelia who has a very similar image and sound, Melanie would get eaten alive in the live shows
Think Lucie Jones & Stacey Solomon, although Stacey was the weaker one and got further
I think Melanie will be back in a year or two and make the live shows. I think its a shame Carolynne didn't make the live shows, shes probably another case of selective editing. The bits we saw were really good

The show is mostly edited for those that eventually make it through it seems. We could complain about Melanie not getting the air time she deserved, but then it was Kelly who has decided not to put her through at Judges House, nothing to do with the public not seeing enough of her so maybe not voting her. Melanie was good, but the girls category is very strong and the 4 that went through is deserved.
Listening to that above though she certainly did deserve the live shows and the audition deserved air time more than Jade for example.

That's not what I'm saying though. I agree that the girls category was very strong, and like I said in my OP I didn't even think Melanie should have gotten through based on what I saw, but I'm just saying would my own opinion have been different if they showed her at her best all the way through which they clearly didn't.
I have no doubt that she's not the only one they did this too either, my point is that their clearly trying to steer us in the direction they want themselves by showing us what suits them, instead of showing everyone at their best and letting us decide ourselves.

Yeah I think its true what you are saying, but I suppose they only have air time for so much to show and its unfortunate (or fortunate for some) at least half of that is left for the comical acts aswell.

I know, but I actually remember watching her audition (which I know now was her second song) and thinking, meh she's only alright, my first (and no doubt most other peoples) impression of her would have been dramatically different had they shown the first song she sang instead of the second, that's what I meant by the mind games they play.

Yeah her first performance was amazing, shame they only showed a tiny part of her doing Only Girl In The World which was nowhere near as good. If they had forced her upon us like Jade etc. I'm sure a lot more people would be disappointed she didn't get through.
Of course they were going to edit out all the alright'ish people who wont sell easily

She wasn't just alright'ish though, have you listened to that youtube Lewis posted? Plus, she's as marketable as any of the girl imo Also, they didn't have to give her more airtime but they could have showed the song she sang better first day

Well clearly the producers didn't see marketability with her (did I just make a word up? :joker:) anyway she hasn't got a sob story and her voice isn't as good as Amelia or Sophies IMO anyway. Doesn't matter now... we've been fooled and we have to live with ourselves for that. :bored:

I know what you're saying and I'm not necessarily saying she should have gotten through, I know the girls category was particularly strong this year. All I'm saying is why they felt the need to put her all the way through to judges houses but not show her best performance, it wasn't to save time cos they did show her first audition but the one which was mediocre rather than outstanding.

It has t be said that audition is fantastic and thats even with quite a poor version audio. Definitely should have been given a proper amount of time on the main show.

Exactly, which is why I find the fuss about Jedward hilarious because they were marketable and I always thought the producers knew they would make them a lot of money, plus IMO it was always the plan for them to dump Jedward at the half point in the show to save face with the public.
The public gets a decent winner in their eyes but since then 3 other acts who didn't win from the same year have done better overall with their careers.
