View Full Version : A Point my teacher made today regarding CBB5 *AND* BB7's Race Rows.

In school today in class we were talking about Big Brother, but it wasn't this series.
The teacher was like 'I haven't watched this year's one' and everyone else said they haven't watched it.
And I was just sitting there like 'I pitty you bastards. :bored:'
But then the Assistant Teacher goes; 'I think the best one was with the yellow eye with Nikki and Glyn in it and the second house and that'
And then everyone started talking about BB7 - and someone goes 'Is that the one that had Jade and the Indian Girl in it?'
And then my teacher touched on a very good point.
She said 'No, that was a celebrity one I think. But I remember in this one - there was an Pakistan guy, who was Gay and he got an awful hard time in the house too'
And I think that's an excellent point, and it got me thinking.
I've been watching back some BB7 Shahbaz Clips this evening and I have to say; I think Shahbaz got it FAR worst than Shilpa Shetty.
The whole group hated him, he didn't have one friend, they mocked him, and ridiculed him and his accent, they locked him out, took his clothes, at one point hurt him physically and were horrible to him.
Big Brother didn't even intefer and the public in 2006 were alot more AGAINST Shahbaz than supporting him, and then of course the poor guy left of his own accord.
Now, why is it that CBB5 is looked at as the Race Row and that made headlines around the world - when surely the situation was the same, if not even more sever for a Gay Pakistani with serious Mental Health Issues?
Is it because 'Poor Shilpa' was a celebrity?
What do you think?

They weren't really racist to shabaz though, just horrible, the whole Jade/Shilpa thing was because she called her shilpa popadom and said she undercooks chicken because she's indian

Maybe Shahbaz was just bullied because he was an outsider to the main group.
Shilpa was mocked because of her culture I think.

When did they physically hurt Shabbazz or w/e?? :o
And with him it was more like... normal bullying. But tbh I didn't think the whole Jade thing was racism at all.

Shahbaz was bullied and should have never been a contestant in the first place. That environment is hard enough for an emotionally unstable person like him, let alone when you're bullied.
Shilpa was deliberately mocked for being Indian.

Shahbaz did have friends in the house, Pete for one and the second being Dawn. The problem was he was not mentally stable enough to be in that environment.
The housemates didn't mind him at first but he kept attacking the housemates over petty things and was constantly attention seeking. He started crying about his rib cage after a 45kg girl fell on him. He made a nasty joke about Glyn on the first night and later said I'm still going to keep being tactile (touchy feely) with you even tho u said to me that you don’t like it. He snapped at Nikki and was sarcastic to Bonnie. He hardly slept at all and would speak loudly in the bedroom whilst others were sleeping. Then he thought it would be a good idea to hide all the food in a garbage bag in the garden... and that’s only the stuff i remember off the top of my head.
This had nothing to do with race. He acted like an a***hole 99% of his time in the house and the housemates had enough of his BS regardless of whether he was black, white or pakistani

being a general ****, no, only 3 months :(
Goody was an experienced and vicious foul-mouthed ignorant bully, skilled at geting a "gang" together, who just happened to pick on a victim who was racially different - Shilpa's real crimes, in Goody's waped mind, were that she was rich, beautiful and "posh", something Goody, despite her substantial earnings, could never be .....
Shahbaz was a victim of his own doing, that is to say, his mental instability - to the HMs, he was a persistent pain in the ass, whose erratic behaviour was extremely unsettling and provocative, to say the least - they were just glad to get rid of him ..... but that still left other HMs with "mental" issues, including Aisleyne, Lea, Nikki, Pete and Sam ..... it was not a happy "household" .....

I felt sorry for Shabaz, they totally isolated him. It's not like he was nasty or anything just a little unusual.

Oh leave him alone. Sure he might rub some people up the wrong way but he's a huge fan and IMO his threads and posts were interesting, clever and got me thinking. I miss the little guy
Anyways, I think the differences between Shahbaz and Shilpa were this:
Shahbaz was an eccentric ordinary member of the British public who no one had ever heard of/particularly cared about and came across as too OTT on first impressions whereas Shilpa was billed as a classy, respectable film actress who alreayd had a strong following in India regardless of how unknown she was over here.
Shahbaz threw food to be shared by all HMs in to the bins, Shilpa merely used an Oxo cube.
Sezer was still a tit but like Shahbaz, he was generally unknown to most of the UK, whereas Jade had already been in the public eye for 5 years and had become a celebrity. To anyone who disliked her first time round, anyone who was never a fan of BB as a show in the first place, any opportunistic journalists and anyone easily influence to jump on the bandwagon, she was seen as a personfication of BB itself and the success it can achieve
I think CBB is a higher profile show and so it had a lot more at stake. It's cos Jade and Shilpa were higher profile they attracted more attention

Didn't Sezer and Richard eat bacon flavoured crisp in-front of him once?
I remember Richard being more than vile during his time in the house, I soon got bored of his bullying and 'wanting to be the only gay in the house'

Blimey, that's going TOO far.....

Erm, if they did, would that be a problem?! :conf:
I dont remember bb7 too well, certainly not to the point where I would remember little details like this, but eating crisps is hardly the crime of the century

I think he was locked in the garden at the time
Sezer and Richard locked Shaabaz in the garden and then taunted him by eating Bacon?

If everyone is ignoring you, your on your own in the house, and two of the people do this to you I'd say it was pretty nasty
