Daily TV round-up – One million switch off 'X Factor'

'The X Factor' has lost nearly a million viewers and excessive ad breaks may be to blame, according to reports.

More than a fifth of the show on Saturday night was taken up with a total of eight ad breaks over its two-and-a half hours duration.

At some points, viewers saw just seven minutes of singing before another four minute break.

The audience dropped from 13.5 million viewers for the first live show of the last series to 12.7 million for Saturday night's show with many fans taking to Twitter to complain about the show being too long.

There’s also speculation that Simon Cowell’s absence could be responsible for the drop in ratings with a source telling the Daily Mail that 'it was a big ask for Gary Barlow to step into Cowell’s shoes, and he did incredibly well. But for pure bite and bitchiness, there is no one like Cowell'.

The ad breaks are extremely annoying. One between every act at times :mad:

The ad breaks were chronic on Saturday, they took up around half an hour of the programming. Ridiculous.

Well it's not surprising with the amount of ads they stick on the most popular shows. Downton Abbey's lost like a million viewers too because of the ads.

They should put on ads every half hour, much better.

Imagine what it's like in America? It's like AD..AD..AD crazy!

I can't say I noticed too much on Saturday but that may be because I had a takeaway indian and was noming down on that
