The X Factor finalists will record a cover of Rose Royce's 1978 hit 'Wishing on a Star' for this year's charity single.
All 16 acts to reach the Live Shows of the ITV1 singing competition will appear on the track, which will be released next month. All proceeds from the song will benefit ACT & Children's Hospices UK.
"I've seen the amazing work they do for kids and their families who need help and support," said X Factor creator Simon Cowell.
"I am thrilled that the X Factor charity single this year will benefit this charity."
Meanwhile, finalist Kitty Brucknell also expressed her excitement for the project, saying: "It's incredible to be able to give something back and hopefully help a lot of people."
Frankie Cocozza added: "[It's a] brilliant thing to be doing for a brilliant charity."
'Wishing on a Star' will serve as the fourth charity single release by X Factor finalists. It follows last year's successful cover of David Bowie's 'Heroes' and 2009's chart-topping version of Michael Jackson's 'You Are Not Alone'.
ACT and Children's Hospices spokesperson Barbara Gelb said: "The money raised from this single gives us the opportunity to improve the lives of these children and families.
"Every single bought, either online or through the High Street, will make such a difference.

Yes, raising money for charity and all that, but there are other ways they can raise money for charity, there's no need for them to hijack the charts year after year.

Yep, most likely set to rob a decent song of #1 like Ellie Goulding - Your Song was robbed last year.

Ugh they're doing that again.
It fails now, it was only good in 2008 - it's not even for the sake of the children or the so called 'heroes' anymore, it's simply for publicity and that bollocks for the show and to make it seem relevant.
I hope it flops.

Imagine if Pendulum just released a massive kick ass song and became the first Pendulum song to enter the Top 40 - goes straight to Number 2 and is almost at No.1 and then X Factor takes it off them.
I would go crazy.

What better way for a "music" show to raise money than by releasing a single?
The charts are full of rubbish anyway, and the benefits of doing this are much stronger than the benefits of a chart without an XF charity single. if you pick the charts over charity and the kids that will benefit then you have something wrong with you
The same backlash doesn't happen when the BBC release charity singles for their 3 events
I hope people remember their thoughts right now should they ever need to use said charities in the future.
Screw the charity aspect, its more important for Ellie Goulding to get a number 1 because number 2 is just unacceptable and a complete flop

Doubt this will be any good, 2008 will always be the best charity single.

But they are in a competition about singing... what else would be apt to raise money than singing a song?

If they really wanted to help charities they would donate the voting money from 1 weekend to charity, instead of realeasing a **** song thats on constant repeat on the radio!
They just release the song for publicity anyway
