Anyone starting to think SR has jumped the shark?
_qNSNKyiSnQ
I know it's technically a prequel to Red Faction...but, why so futuristic so early?
Not really sure I follow, what's this about a Red Faction prequel? :/
But anyway, this game's gonna be amazing, one for the Christmas list :amazed:

Ah right, that's pretty interesting actually, never knew that

I do love the wackyness of SR, but the Third is looking a bit too wacky, I'm not sure on the whole future look either
I know what you mean, I dunno if I like the fact that they focus pretty much solely on the games wackyness as it's selling point

Aye, there's a difference between Saints Row 2's whacky side missions and The Third's "OH LETS HAVE A BUNNY IN A SUIT SHOOTING ROCKET LAUNCHERS AT SPACESHIPS, WHICH FIRE LASERS, AND THEN YOU CAN STRIKE A POSE AFTER YOU HIT A HOOKER WITH A DILDO! LOL" It starts to give off the air of being aimed at 13 year old boys.
I kinda sorta agree but the alternative is to just sell it as a GTA clone which is worse. Beneath all the marketing it's still going to be a massively entertaining open world gang game where you can just so choose to listen to Destiny's Child as you drive around in a cat's vagina running over small children with horrific birth defects.
Scarlett.

I hope you're right and that it is just over the top marketing, I'm definately still getting the game
Scarlett.

It's been decided, Patrick Stewart is gonna be my main character :D

SR2 was pretty serious though in terms of the story. This time it just seems like pure comedy and a joke...I dunno If I would like that as much.

I wish I had the money to buy this :bawling:
I'm mixed on the initiation station thing you can download from marketplace now to make your character. The hair all looks too shiny and blocky like a wrestling game or something and it seems to actuall have less fine detail options than Saints Row 2. On the flip side to this it comes with about a half dozen bondage costumes and the ability to turn your characters skin shiny silver so he or she is essentialy a robot.
The good news though is that the almighty cockney voice preset returns so I think I'll just make my old character again.
Scarlett.
13-11-2011, 03:14 PM
I used the Cockney accent too xD I think the best way to describe how my SR2 character looked is "Danny Dyer" xD
Scarlett.
19-11-2011, 12:07 AM
I got it, it's story is amazingly fun xD
I can't wait to play it. I have a huge backlog of games creeping up on me but very little money for the next few weeks.

Nah PS3 is region free so its all good
Heard rumors that the reason MGS1 isnt included is cus they are making a full out remake , doubt it though especially with Rising and now 5 coming out
And the fact that it was remade for GameCube.
They should have thrown Twin Snakes into this collection.
Ramsay
19-11-2011, 12:27 AM
Yeah I always thought that too it would make the most sense
Scarlett.
19-11-2011, 12:28 AM
I bet they couldn't do it due to it being a Nintendo game...and Nintendo being ignored with this HD release xD
Ramsay
19-11-2011, 12:31 AM
Damn Nintendo
Samuel.
19-11-2011, 12:38 AM
Hideo Kojima disregards Twin Snakes as a proper MGS game. They messed up the cut scenes and voice acting. Or at least they took it in a direction Kojima wasn't happy with.
Plus with the anniversary coming up, they've most likely got a full remake of the first MGS in the works.
Anniversary of what exactly?
The series 20th Anniversary was three years ago and Metal Gear Solid's tenth anniversary was two years ago.
The cutscenes in Twin Snakes did suck ass though. Matrix overkill.
Samuel.

This is the game I want the most atm, more than Skyrim, wish Christmas would hurry up :(

Probably about a quarter of the way through the main quest, at a guess. Liking it a lot so far, so much I bought the season pass, and I normally hate these GTA-style, mission based open world games.

Just finished this. Probably my favourite game of the year.
Skryim's great, and I'm a huge Uncharted fan and will be playing that multiplayer for at least a year or two, but neither have amazed me like Saints Row has. What an insane and brilliant video game that fully embraces what video games are. We need more games like this. More games willing to be completely bat**** crazy.
Looking forward to the DLC.

I got two other games but I can't see myself wanting to play them for a while
I think the gang turf-wars are a little difficult. But I'm a newbie
What a load of bollocks. I hate it. Seriously. Skyrim was a minor dissapointment and I've already stopped playing that but then it's still amazing. This however was just brutal.
It seems to actually have less stuff in it than Saints Row 2, the story and mission structure is just bizarrely disjointed and inconsistent [story arcs picked up and dropped like sets of keys, glorified activity tutorials passed off as missions etc] the map is the pits and everything looks way too glossy. It's like someones just sprayed Mr. Sheen everywhere.
I liked making my own characters. Now the stereotypes already exist and are fed to you through layered, premade whacky clothes.
I was so let down by this game.
AND THE GUY WITH THE AUTOTUNED VOICE. IT GETS OLD VOLITION. JUST A BIT.
Samuel.
26-12-2011, 06:46 PM
Seems those who haven't played/didn't enjoy Saints Row 2 think this is the greatest game ever, those who have hate it. Volition have two very different fan bases for the same series; be interesting to see who they cater for in the next Saints Row.
Considering they're selling like twice the amount of copies than they were with SR2, probably not hard to guess who that'll be...
Shaun
26-12-2011, 08:27 PM
is SR2 on PS3? If so I might pick that up in the sales.
It certainly is. The PS3's sound chip gets pushed to the limits producing the cockney voice presets wonderful cockney put downs.
Samuel.

You can download SR2 for free when you use Saints Row The Third's online pass.
Not sure if it shows up anywhere more obvious, but you can find it by searching Saints Row 2 in the PSN store.
I'm convinced the Playstation Store is a game in and of itself. You should be awarded trophies for finding what you actually came for.
Might get Oddworld : Stranger's Wrath and Resident Evil tonight myself on it.

I loved all three Saints Rows. The first two were nice due to the detail on urban lifestyle etc. This so far is brill as it allows you to live the high lifestyle.
My Suit top with jeans and saints snapack swagger>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Hmm played for a few hours now and I'm not that enthused by it tbh. I agree with what Stu said, they've tried to make things look really glossy, the map's just frustrating now and the whole thing feels a bit awkward. I'm finding driving less smooth as well, and I really don't see the need for a huge green arrow showing me where to turn when there's a green line that I'm capable of following. The police are pissing me off as well, it was pretty clear in SR 2 what would get you what, like you'd kill a few people and the blue line would go up steadily, and then on one star they would just start coming at you with melee weapons. I don't really see how it works now, sometimes I seem to get a star, or an icon it is now, for killing somebody and sometimes I don't, and straight away now they start shooting at you. The characters and clothing are a bit annoying as well, can't just mess around with them as easily anymore, you don't seem to be able to have layered clothing or different patterns either.
That said, there are things I like. I found the intro quite funny with the "well who really gives a **** about Pierce anyway" line and the Johnny Gat heads, and cruising along with Pierce in the car and singing along to a song he had put on was pretty cool. I'm hoping I'll get used to the new style of the game and love it just as much as SR 2 but I am a bit dissapointed by it all so far

-got shot for streaking-
You know what it's like? You know them mayhem cheats you would use in GTA to make the pedestrians go all inane? Yeah it's like that except you can never turn it off.
The best thing about the game is the fact that this gem is in it :
NXQYyKzyDaE&ob=av2e
I love the fact that Volition - the big wiggers - have an alternative station that's about as disjointed as the rest of their cultural understanding. It's just fantastic that Talk Talk and Rum DMC are on the same station.
The music in it is mostly cack though. Some of the worst I've ever heard in an open world game. KMFDM and Talk Talk are class though.

It is? Bloody hell. I barely touched that game. Hated the map. Anytime I did play it I had on V-Rock.
What a revelation :o.
The Mix is definitely my favourite station on there, I miss that talk radio one they had back on the original SR though
Samuel.
27-12-2011, 02:30 AM
The use of music in this game is brilliant. I don't think I've ever seen it done better.
Jumping out of the plane to Power >>>
MTVN, the fact that you're pointing out something like not understanding how the police stars trigger, tells me you're approaching Saints Row the Third all wrong. A I don't give **** attitude is really needed to fully enjoy SR3. Don't think too much is my best advice  Just let the game engulf you with it's awesomeness.
And the best parts of the game are near the end; it just gets better and better, so stick with it. So many memorable moments in the last third of the game, it goes all the right kind of crazy.
The more I think about this game, the more I love tbh. Will be starting my second playthrough tomorrow.
I found the law enforcement system to be all over the place myself, too. Just because the game is ****ING MENTAL BRO! should not excuse it from having a basic, logical infastructure on which to lay the madness on, I reckon.
^ Yeah pretty much, I know the game is supposed to be over the top and ridiculous, running around with a big purple dildo and the like, I get that. But I still like it to make some kind of sense on a basic, fundamental level, not just for it to be all over the place, nonsensical randomness. I know the Police gripe was a bit of a petty one but it was just something I noticed that seemed to have been unnecessarily altered from SR 2, to no real benefit; there wasn't really anything wrong with the way it was it done in the last game IMO
I will stick with it though, because I think I probably will end up enjoying it, even if I don't love it as much as the last game
Samuel.
27-12-2011, 02:47 AM
The game's well made, you won't have to worry about anything being game breaking or broken about it (aside from being able to make yourself invincible if you so choose). The level of production is higher than most games.
And it's probably best to try and avoid making the Saints Row 2 comparisons; I get the impression it's a very different experience.
The game is glitchy as hell and comparisons to it's prequel are more than valid, IMO. It's the same basic game just tweaked to meet a concept you either love or hate.
Hair vanishes into shoulders, long coats duck out from under cars, the AI is hopeless ... all the same bugs that have plagued the series for years and none of them have really been worked on. It's pretty and noisy yeah but the production values are far from perfect.
Samuel.
27-12-2011, 02:53 AM
I didn't run into any bugs or glitches, a part from not being able to remove a tattoo  though I have heard some of the Saints Book stuff is broken.
And as you say, you'll either love it or hate it. It's best to go into it with a fresh mind, especially seeing how Saints Row 2 fans have reacted to the game. You'll enjoy it more if you're not constantly making those comparisons.
I only made comparisons after I realised this one sucked though. I'd love to buy what you're selling but I just cannot enjoy the game at all and that's hardly because I thought the previous game was better. If that was the case I'd be pissing on copies of Final Fantasy VIII all day and all night howling like a nutter.
I just don't like the game. And it's not because I have a copy of Saints Row 2 propped up next to the PlayStation to hypnotise me into thinking this game is bad. And man did I give it a chance. I had a good ten hours logged into it by the time I threw in the towel :(.
Samuel.
27-12-2011, 03:10 AM
That's fair enough. I only bring up the comparisons to SR2 as I am seeing a more positive reaction for this game from those who haven't played it, and vice-versa. But I can understand why Saints Row the Third wouldn't be for everyone.
