X FACTOR bosses are secretly plotting a major shake-up of the show which will see the judges SWITCH categories for the first time.

The move, which has yet to be discussed with the TV panel, may be announced as early as next week.

The twist was dreamed up during crunch talks last night as bosses battle to win back the 2.5million viewers who have deserted the ITV talent series on Saturday nights.

A source said executives are "paralysed by fear" that BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing will continue to beat The X Factor in the ratings.

A show source said: "This move will really put the cat among the pigeons as it's the last thing the judges will expect. It will be a major test for them as they've become too comfortable with their own acts. Producers reckon tearing up the format is just the shot in the arm the show needs."

The source said the plan was for host Dermot O'Leary to announce the twist on a Sunday night.

That would give judges Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh just one week to get to know and mentor their new charges.

That's not going to help viewers :suspect:

They need to leave the show alone now, it's getting ridiculous!

FFS !!

I gave up on the X Factor the year Leona won. With new judges I decided it was time to give it another go. I've really enjoyed this series, mainly because I haven't had anything to compare it against.

I'm getting tired of all these rumours of changing this or changing that, why can't they just let it play out.

How can a judge suddenly gain fighting spirit towards a contestant they haven't really worked with.

When it comes to saving the contestant on the results show, does the judge go for their current group of do they save the one they've been working with since boot-camp ?

If this happens. X Factor is ruined, it's having too many "twists" it's pretty pathetic and really desperate. I'm already close to not giving a crap next year.. this just tips me over the edge :bored:

It's getting ridiculous and if they do that it will be the most farcical twist ever and make a mockery of the series.

No thanks, I like what Tulisa has done with the groups do NOT want this, let the other judges ruin their own acts (Louis aint doing a bad job I guess, but Kelly and Gary )
