We know where most contestants strengths are and we know what music they fit into. So with these themed weeks are they potentially killing the show ?
Would it work better if they stopped having themed weeks ?
I'm not suggesting wrapping them up in cotton wool and keep them in their comfort zones, I'm all for seeing where the acts could go, I'm just not so sure the themes are the way to go.

100% the theme weeks are killing the show - well for me anyway. So many potential winners (past and present series) have been voted off because the theme week didn't suit their voices. For instance, Johnny Robinson, who is a fantastic ballad singer, didn't get enough votes because this weeks theme music was out of his comfort zone. Also theme weeks give the judges something to argue about. X-factor is past its sell by date IMO.

I think the themes are killing the show because Aiden last year when he got RocketMan just made him look ridiculous, and Jamie when he got Radio Gaga on Queen night a couple of years back was ridiculous aswell imo.

I think the same themes over and over again kill the show, do something new, no more big band week or brit pop week, why not do an acoustic week, really show off the vocals

An acoustic week is a brilliant idea and it certainly would show off the vocals. Pity the X-factor producers don't read these forums (or maybe they do) but your acoustic suggestion is brill.
