View Full Version : Why are the X-factor ratings so bad. Is it competition with BB12?

I just haven't been as interested this year, It's so hard to keep up with all the different shows and spin off that I've found myself losing contact with X-factor and just not being as interested as I might have been if BB12 hadn't been on at the same time. Does anyone feel the same way?
please say what you think has been the biggest factor in the loss of TV ratings this year.

No LOL
No LOL
From what I've heard BB is awful this year. I doubt it'll give anything any competition

Changes of the judges for me,just not the same without Simon Cowell, but don't think BB has had any affect on XFactors ratings
X Factor is down about 2m, and last years was up 2m, so its not that bad when you look further back than last year.
Meanwhile BB12 lost half of the audience who watched the CBB launch, and the BB12 audience ended up halving again. Its struggling to keep more than 1m viewers. Not quite the same as having 12m viewers with a peak of 14m and being the most watched show of the week
Last night Xtra Factor got 1.1m and BB got 1.2m when head to head, says all you need to know
I don't watch BB at weekends because of X Factor, but there are still 5 other days in the week and BB is still doing really badly then

it seems a bit unfair to compare a show like BB that is on every night for an hour to a quick fire couple of hours on primetime Saturday like X-factor though tbf. I doubt X-factor would get 1million if it were on every night.

Personally, I've lost interest in it because I just think it's run it's course. They do the same things every year to gain publicity and it's just tired now. Judges arguing, saving the controversial acts over the better singers, making bands out of solos and other bands, it's just boring now and I can't shake the feeling of being treated like a moron

It's just gone stale... the controversy is dead, you know what to expect, wouldn't be shocked if they kicked out Misha B, Marcus or Janet over Frankie to get people talking at this stage...
It needs a massive shake-up or a year break.
Looking forward to seeing The Voice (Hope they get either Will Young/Chris Martin... doubtful.

No, it's because X Factor is really bad this year.

When ITV found out that Simon wasn't returning, they should have bought The Voice and aired that instead. If it followed a similar format especially with the controversy, media attention and had the same judges, I think the ratings would be similar to how X Factor is doing. They could have even had Simon's production company and PR team involved. Huge opportunity wasted because last year they had 13-14m viewers each weekend, those viewers would still be there and would just latch on to the similar programme. Lets face it, theres nothing else to do on autumn/winter Saturdays and Sundays if you're not going out.
I don't think it needs another shake up but they really need a star female judge who the audience love. Series 1-3 worked because everyone loved Sharon. Series 4 didn't work because Sharon turned nasty and bitter whilst Dannii was just pointless. Series 5 worked because of Cheryl. Series 6 & 7 worked because people warmed to Dannii. This year Tulisa is just 'there' and Kelly is awful. They both worked at first but not anymore. The simple solution would be to swap Kelly & Nicole over so Nicole comes on our panel. Whilst she does have her critics here, she went down really well during series 7 and shes still popular in the charts, a lot more than in America anyway.

I'm not sure changing the judges is going to help now, I think that'd make things worse because it would look like an act of desperation imo

Its not the motive of changing the judges that I'm on about, its more who they replace them with. They could get away with the same panel for another year or two and it would continue to do well but I'm not sure this full panel will be back, and my money is firmly on Kelly not coming back. If they do Next Generation again it just won't work, but if they brought back Cheryl, Dannii, Nicole or Sharon in place of Kelly or Tulisa then it would have a fighting chance of rebounding next year. ITV should just put their money where their mouth is and get Cheryl & Dannii back. SCD has survived longer than X Factor with only one judge being replaced and thats stronger than ever. No reason why X Factor couldn't be the same.

I'd really love to see Dannii back as she was my favourite judge. I wouldn't do it though because it would just seem awful for the judges who were removed. Who would they kick out to replace with Dannii and Cheryl?? Tulisa and Kelly have hardly had time to put their stamp on things
I really don't like it when people are not given a proper chance and then removed behind closed doors in an act of desperation. It looks bad imo and would completely turn me of the show and its production team personally.
If that's the respect they have for their judges, what does that mean for the respect they have for the public itself!!?
I agree about a fair chance, and with the right chance I can see Tulisa growing into a good judge, shes already a great mentor, and even though I've not been her biggest fan this year I really do hope shes back next year. But I'm not sure about Kelly, I loved her in the auditions but shes gone from start of series 5 Cheryl to end of series 7 Cheryl in the space of a few weeks. Her ego is far too big for the show and not in an ironic way. And as I keep saying I really don't think she'll be back anyway, so they need someone who viewers already like and know which is why I think Nicole will be on ours next year because America aren't taking to her.
I think last weeks show was effectively Alexandras 'audition' for next year, just like Nicole last year and when Paula guest judged a few years back, but I'm not sure she'd work on a weekly basis. Why else would they have pulled Nicole out at the last minute? I've said it a few times in different threads but I really am convinced next years panel will be Louis, Tulisa, Nicole and Gary.

rofl yeah, cos those 800k BB viewers have made all the difference.
Annoying how crap like The X Factor gets as many viewers as it gets whilst Big Brother which is still miles better than it floats around 1m.

BB is rubbish compared to how it used to be and when it was good people actually watched

The problem for me with TXF this year, is the lack of people I like. I only like Craig...and to an odd extent Frankie because hes so bad(and the judges hate him).
Whereas last year, although I didnt like a few of them sometimes, there was Mary, Matt, Cher, Rebecca, Paige, One Direction and Aiden who I used to enjoy watching.

It's just far less absorbing than other years. The acts are less talented and just less interesting in general. Last year I was addicted, there was Matt and Rebecca who always delivered. I loved Cher and Katie, the way Wagner kept getting through was hilarious. This year I'm struggling to work up any interest in any of the acts. The huge change of judges probably hasn't helped either, but for me it's more about the acts.

I find it hard to watch when they keep adding in all of these "twists", its ruined it, the week 1 twist got rid of some really good talent and then the weekly themes are a bit naff too, don't think the judging panel is working well which is strange because I think it worked well during the auditions

Lack of serious talent this year, one of the worst years for talent and the judges bickering is putting people off. The judges themselves are a problem too, the show has suffered big time without Simon Cowell and Tulisa and Kelly are not adequate replacements for Cheryl and Dannii.

I know they don't clash that much but Strictly is somewhat it's downfall, they've had the best lineup they've ever and match that with X-factor having the worst talent they've ever had..

I feel the same, haven't seen any of this year it's just same old same old really tbh, I do think the judges has played a part as well, doesn't feel the same without Simon, Danni and even Cheryl despite her only joining a few years ago

Getting rid of Danni was the X Factor's downfall this year.

Oh dear looks like I'm the only one who thinks that TXF has quite a lot of talent this year - perhaps my hearing is going LOL. I think the ratings are down as the show is tired and the change in judges has put some off - I used to love tuning in just to watch how nasty Simon would be. Having said that I have quite taken to the new lot and still love the show - though I watch Strictly and record TXF so I can skip through the adverts.
