For me, the build-up. The actual day's a tad dire, usually, really.
You?

xmas day
I don't get excited about Christmas anymore so just the actual day for me, I like our family traditions we have (e.g. watch Elf. We're so modern.) and the food!
The build-up is amazing. The day itself tends to go by in a flash and then it's all over for another year.

I start getting excited in september. That's when I start reading recipes, checking christmas lights prices and gifts. I really really really really really love christmas.

It was the day when I was a lad, then it was the build up as I started to age.
When I became a dad it was back to the actual day.
There's something really magical about watching your child's eyes sparkle as they open each present.

I prefer Christmas Eve to Christmas Day. I love going into town and watch everyone doing rushed last minute shopping, knowing mine are wrapped up under the Christmas tree.
Christmas Day for me is boring except for the present opening and the Xmas dinner eating.

Without even realising this (until you pointed it out) I've had 'It's the most wonderful time of the year' going round and round in my head, albeit it's just the chorus.
Now I have the holidays are coming.....

Build up. I love the day but after you open the presents there's that horrible temporary feeling of "oh there's nothing left" and then you play with/read/eat/wear/appreciate etc. the presents and then eat dinner and watch films and go to bed.

I like both, the build-up has Christmas movies and Christmas preparations and sending/getting cards but the actual day has presents so.

Build up.. I love Christmas shopping and watching The Grinch on Christmas Eve :D
I like the build up from the beginning of December..I hate that it starts in September/October...I like late night shopping in Decemeber when the Christmas lights are on..I love watching Elf and Polar Express on the run up to Christmas and I enjoy Christmas Day..it's all downhill from Boxing Day onwards though..once Christmas day is over, I just want to take my decorations down and forget it till next year
*Yes Visage, I know....it's the most wonderful time of the year....allegedly*
