Long essay here k- ready?

So basically in October I was browsing stuff to watch during Halloween, I came across AMC's 'The Walking Dead'. It tells the story of Rick Grimes and a group of survivors in a post-apolcalyptic zombie infested world! The first few episodes were quite epic and had be drawn in straight away, in fact I love the show so much that I'm watching them earlier than broadcast in the UK.

So after watching the whole of Series 1 and Series 2's first few episodes I discovered that 'The Walking Dead' is actually a famous Comic Book series in America. I bought a 'Compendium Book', which is basicaly the first 48 issues (There's been 91 out so far). I found myself drawn in and unable to put the book down, it was unlike anything I had ever read before, absolutely gripping until the very end. After 3 days I had read an 1000 page book and was hungry for more.

The TV series and the comic book's are entirely different to each other. Shane, is Rick's police collegue. Rick is shot and wakes from a coma to discover the zombie-infested world. He later discovers that Shane had taken his Wife and Son to Atlanta to save them. We later realise that Lori (Rick's wife) had sex with Shane and the two had begun a relationship on the grounds that they thought Rick was dead. In the Comic Book series, upon Rick's return Shane goes sort of crazy and attempts to kill his former best-friend Rick, only to be shot by Rick's son Carl. This is the climax of the first chapter. Now- in the TV series we have gone to what is Chapter 2 of the book and Shane is still alive and present.

Rick and Shane decide to travel to the 'CDC' (an army-base thingy in Atlanta) because they think it may be safe after a zombie attack. However in the book this dosen't happen at all and instead the survivors discover 'Wiltshire Estates', a housing eastate with gates that they soon discover is infested with zombies. I think that I aswell as many other viewers that the TV series would have kept true to the original comic books.

When I bought the book I had already watched the whole of series one and half of series two, so I thought half the book would be what's already happened, however I found that the scenes flew by and by the end of chapter 2 it was onto completely new material. The cliffhangers were absolutely epic and I strongly recommend reading the comic book first- it definately is something you will not be able to put down. It's extremely gory, sexy and dramatic the whole way through and unbelievably addictive.

I'm sure ya'll be able to find somewhere to watch the series online- but here's a link to read the first issue of the comic- give it a go- why not ehh?

I watch the tv series and agree it's really good, I'm not really into comics though.

I was going to download the comics but I was afraid it would spoil the show.

In a way- I suppose what happens with the comics could happen with the TV series, but after reading the comics and watching the tv series there is already a ton of differences. I mean the whole CDC thing didn't happen at all.

I strongly reccomend it, best thing I've ever read!
