If the US is kicked out of the Middle East, I consider it a good thing for the US.

Don't worry, the USA has previous experience. They've been kicked out of places before.

You have quite a thing for my posts today, don't you. Try reading it more slowly. And then don't bother replying because I'm ignoring you. I find your half-baked, country-fried opinions comical, but wearing. So try them on someone who cares what you think.

I'm fed up of both Britain and America's interfering in the Middle East, I don't blame the Iranians for storming our embassy and burning the flag

The reason the embassy in Iran was ransacked was because some Iranians were angry that the UN imposed sactions on them because of their ongoing nuclear programme. It wasn't Britain alone that imposed the sanctions, and yet British staff - mostly administrators - were attacked by a mob. Yeah, well done them, what a bunch of heroes.
I myself don't blame Haig for kicking their diplomats out of the UK the very next day.

Just the latest in a long list of things we've done to piss them off. It was partly us who was responsible for overthrowing their democratically elected and popular Prime Minister Mohammed Mosadeq in the 50's, in the 60's and 70's we supported Iran's Shah who was terrorising his people, we supported Saddam in the Iraq-Iran war, we've derided Ahmedinejad ever since he got into power and it was us who was the leading country in calling for sanctions on Iran, is it any wonder our two countries are at complete loggerheads?
Most of the "evidence" that Iran is developing nuclear weapons is dodgy and questionable, and it's beginning to resemble the build up to the Iraq war. Even if they do want the bomb then so what, everyone else in the region has one - Israel, Russia, Pakistan, India, who are we to say it's fine for those countries to have nuclear weapons and not Iran?

President Ahmadinejad is such a trustworthy, balanced kind of leader, isn't he. Hard to see why we don't trust him. Personally I'm relieved we're not waiting till we've got thermonuclear missiles heading straight for our collective arses before someone does something. And you keep saying "we" when you mean the United Nations.

I don't see him as any more so than half the leaders we've backed in the past and present, I'm just saying that I don't think it's much surprise that a lot of Iranians would hold resentment towards Britain. And I say "we" because it's generally been us and the US at the forefront of hostilities towards Iran.

Well, that's very understanding of you MTVN. It's a little simplistic, though. And honestly, if you don't think that Ahmadinejad is one of the most dangerous men in the world today... then I'm surprised at you, truly I am.

Not as simplistic as seeing it in binary terms of; Britain and the US = good, Iran = bad. And given that the West have been responsible for far more wars, death and bloodshed over the last few decades I'd rather not take sides in this sabre rattling contest.

The west is not involved in the most deaths and bloodshed.
The arabs kill eachother far more. The arabs kill eachother far more than the west kills arabs in these wars. Look at how many women are raped and murded by their husbands, or by their families in "honour kilings" or most of the civilian casualties by arab terrorists killing other arabs in markets and roadside bombs.
Anyone who says the west is more violent than the arabs is an idiot.

Some people would claim that 1.5m civilians have died since the start of the Iraq war as a result of the invasion, you can't blame "the Arabs" for that, it is Britain and American who are responsible

sorry, but you are wrong. That vast majority of civilian deaths are caused by the terrorists (taliban and al-quaeda) not by the NATO forces.
Even Amnesty International would admit that.

Ah that would be the same Taliban that we were supporting under a different name 20/30 years or so ago right? And you're missing the point, even if it wasn't British or American forces who pulled the trigger, that huge civilian death toll has come about because of the invasion, war causes deaths if you hadn't realised

No, the huge civilian death tooll came about because these countries cannot govern themselves. We invaded Afghanistan because the Taliban (the ruling government at the time) did absolutely nothing to stop al-queada planning the 9/11 attacks. If these countries cannot stop their own people from planning attacks on America then America has every right to try to stop them.
Please don't pretend that these countries were any better before we got there.

Afghanistan is a pointless war that will never be won, we're only going to see continued ongoing fighting and bloodshed, I would have hoped that history had shown us that with Britain's attempts at invasion before, and the USSR's

i guess yur right, we should just say F all afghans, and let them rot. because if Uk and Russia failed, that must mean they are incapable of redemption??

No I simply recognise that Western neo-Imperialism under the guise of "humanitarianism" or the "War on Terror" doesn't help anybody, least of all the Afghans themselves, it's only done to further Western interests in my opinion. The whole idea of a war on terrorism is a fallacy.

MTVN did not say '******* all Afghans and let them rot', nor did he infer it. He said he felt it was pointless and explained why.
You know what's spoiling reading this thread....your need / desire to get personal simply because someone isn't agreeing with your opinion.

This is an interesting serious debate, being marred by your personal insults. That's my opinion.

i havn't made any personal insults. I think you should stick to making your own points though, and stop trying to team up with others and bullying.
If you have something to add, you don't need to take sides, just say what you want to say.

why do you need to bring other people into your arguments? Ganging up and forming a group is bullying.
If you have an oppossing view point, you can address me directly, you don't need to mention anyone else, or try to make it seem like you are ganging up with someone against me.

If I have an opposing view to any members comment on this thread and/or their opinion, : I'll post it where I see fit, and not where you tell to me.
I happen to share some of MTVN's opinions on this topic, my posts have said that. I'm happy to copy and paste the points in my own name if that makes you feel any better?
Let's go back a few posts then. back to your own words, let's keep you happy.

Why do I disagree? For similar reasons to MTVNs.

umm, maybe you should RE-READ what you just posted, obviously i disagreed with that too. are you paying attention to anything actually written in this thread? or are you just trying to start arguments?
It sounds like you agree with me then, because the part you put in bold was obviously sarcastic, and obviously i don't agree with it.
In that quote that you bolded i'nm obviously saying we shouldn't abandon the afghani's and that our mission is infact worthwhile to help them.... so what exactly is it that you are disagreeing with me about?

What do I disagree with you about. Just about everything should sum it up nicely.
