They're very much a 'my first opera' type of group. It's just endless covers and predictable performances. Once you've heard one song you need not listen to another since you'll have the full grasp of what they are about.

I really dislike them, they are so bland and dull.

I prefer my opera sung by real opera singers. However... they don't suck.

They sing opera beautifully, but they couldn't sing a whole opera. They're classical pop singers in effect, and only do the popular bits, like Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson. Popera singers, if you like. Did you know that Il Divo was put together by Simon Cowell? Kind of says it all...

opera for morons
I was going to say opera for people with a short attention span, but you put it so much more simply, Shaun.
Wow. Some of the comments here. They might not be your cup of tea, but bland and dull?
They're extremely talented. My dad loves them. They're the best in what they do and their success goes hand in hand with that
It's not even my type of music. I wouldn't go out my way to listen to them but their talent is undeniable.
Opera beats technicality when it comes to just singing or shouting out a song like most these days.
Quite offensive to say opera is for morons. Brordan your horizon.

The comment was that Il Divo is opera for morons, not that opera is for morons in general

I did know that they are one of Simon's groups, but it's not Simon who is doing the singing is it?

exactly REye, they top the charts all the time and have mass appeal. Not only in the UK but around the whole world. They also sing in at least three different languages (Italian, Spanish and English). :amazed:

And just like every other singer - they still have to learn the songs - they just learn them in another language. Hardly a new concept.

No one said opera is for morons. If you read it again it will say that Il Divo is opera for morons.

They do have mass appeal. They appeal to the mass of people who believe that when they listen to Il Divo, they think it's culture, instead of the manufacturered rubbish that it is. Just because you sing a pop song in Italian it doesn't make it culture.
You said when one of them sings, the world comes out of his mouth. Try listening to a proper operatic tenor sometime and you'll crap yourself.
