Brittany Murphy's mother claims toxic mold found in Brittany's swanky Hollywood home killed her daughter AND her son-in-law ... and now she wants someone to pay.

Brittany died from from pneumonia in 2009 ... and 5 months later, her husband also passed away from the same ailment.

Sharon Murphy claims the people who built the house are to blame for the mold that caused their condition -- but according to a new lawsuit, Sharon alleges she was duped by her lawyers into giving up her rights to sue the builders for wrongful death.

Long story short -- Sharon says her lawyers convinced her to accept a settlement offer for the construction defects back in January ... but they failed to explain she would never be able to go after the builders for their alleged role in Brittany's death.

Now, Sharon has sued her former lawyers for legal malpractice -- and wants them to pay her what she could have won in a wrongful death suit ... and other damages.

It did seem strange, Brittany and her husband dying within months of each other :/

Yes, it does seem too much of a coincidence.

Mystery solved?

Weird to think that such a famous person would die of something that you'd most likely connote with poverty

I can't imagine many people wanting to live there, it must be a bit like Amityville or something :amazed:

she might very well have been a huge Hugh Laurie fan but this seems farfetched.

Far fetched yeah, but it makes more sense than her and her husband both dropping dead for no obvious reason :/

It was all over the news.

I loved her. She was amazing in "Girl interupted" and "Riding in cars with boys".

And Heath Ledger.

Both major losses.

I saw it, I was just too upset to notice. I still rank Brittany Murphy's death as being more tragic than Diana or Michael Jackson. Did either of them BOSS the slightly above average rom com market? I think not.
