View Full Version : Kim Jong-il dies
Been thought that he's in bad health for a while now but still.. wow!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16239693
North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has died at the age of 69, state-run television has announced.
His death was announced in an emotional statement read out on national television.
The announcer, wearing black, said he had died on Saturday of physical and mental over-work.
The BBC's Lucy Williamson in Seoul says his death will cause huge shock waves across North Korea.
Kim Jong-il has been the leader of the impoverished communist country since the death of his father Kim Il-sung in 1994.
He suffered a stroke in 2008 and was absent from public view for several months.
His designated successor is believed to be his third son, Kim Jong-woon, who is thought to be in his late 20s.
But the real good news here, is that I had him on my death list :amazed:

Don't know much about the politics in that country, will it basically stay the same with a different guy? Secretive and communism?
Don't think anybody really knows what it's like there really  It probably will, I think his supposed successor, his son, was educated in the West so that might have made him more democratic and less of a dictator but then he was pictured with his Dad clapping along to the huge military parade so he'll probably be pretty much the same

isn't his successor like only a teenager?
It's crazy how worshipped the leaders are, this is from when the previous leader Kim il-Sung died

I think that a lot of people who live in the Capital really do think like that, they're brought up to believe he's some great being and he's technically still the leader of NK because they made him "eternal president" when he died nearly 20 years ago

I never knew he was born in Russia :suspect:
Makes me laugh how underneath the BBC article it says:
Are you in North Korea? Please send us your comments using the form below.
Somehow I don't think that's very likely
Someone needs to make a tribute to him with this song

I have tried searching for the name of the song since Gaddafi died but can't find it anywhere

Tis is hilarious. When Kim Il Sung died, they made him the 'eternal president'. I wonder what they'll do to Kim Jong Il here.
I love hearing news out of north Korea any way, that countrynisnso fascinating for the simple fact of how backward it is governmentally etc.
Some of the stories about him are amazing, apparently on his first ever game of golf he shot 11 holes in one, it was verified by all 17 of his bodyguards

I read somewhere too that the majority of north Koreans believed that he controlled the weather or something.

Living in North Korea is basically like living in the Big Brother House. :joker:
Never heard of him but seen it on the news when they were all crying but he's meant to have been a brutal dictator? Also, a man called Kim who looks like Nancy Lam? :conf:

He is a dictator but one with a huge personality cult, especially in the capital Pyongyang, people are brought up to believe he's almost a superhuman figure which is why a lot of them are so devastated.
This is a good documentary about North Korea, it's relatively sympathetic to the country though

Good news. I hope that it will lead to an end to communist dicatorship in N Korea. I am glad that he died in natural circumstances rather then immorally killed like Bin Laden or Gadaffi.

Agree with most of your post, though fail to understand why you think Bin ladens death was immoral.
He was to all extents the equivalent of a general of a terrorist army, generals are legitimate targets too. He beleived he was in a war, with the west etc. He was merely a casualty of that war.
That is if he was in fact killed in the raid in Pakistan and not spirited out of the country as a guest of the USA.

Yes... best you go and read what exactly he did do for his country.
People are weeping openly because they will be accused of being traitors if they don't.

He was shot without a trial therefore without a chance to voice his opinion. Regardless of what he had done in his life he should of been given a trial. Now much to the delight of the west (who will no longer be able to be exposed to secrets that they would of wanted to hide) they would be relieved to not here any infomation that would damage the reputation of the west.
I am (patially) against the death penalty and corpral punnishment or life prisonment would of been a better choice.

Hmm I'm not sure about that, I think a lot of them, especially in Pyongyang, are just indoctrinated
