Has this got a deliberate Christmas theme to it, given the seasonal time of year?

Love the way the French harp on about genocide nearly 100 years ago and dont seem to care about Turkey's treatment of the Kurds in Southern Turkey and N Iraq in the last 20 years.

Yep Presidential Election next year so why not go for the Armenian vote, will gain himm maybe 400,000 votes pmsl.
Maybe its me being too cynical but I actually think it has more to do with the EU, by forcing the Turks to make this sort of reaction they can bring sanction to them through the EU. Turkey is after all only an associate member at the moment.
If and when Turkey does become a full member state they would be entitled to the same sort of economic assistance that Ireland Spain and Greece received, but also allow the Turkish citizens to move fully into the European Labour markets.
At the moment there is no requirement for France to hold a referendum on the Turkish accession into Europe, provided a majority of both the senate and parliamnet vote in favour.

"Turkish prime minister ramps up diplomatic spat, saying French killed 15% of Algeria's population during postwar occupation"

"Under Sarkozy, who has opposed Turkey's stalled bid to join the EU, Paris-Ankara relations have been tricky. Turkey has accused his rightwing UMP party of using the genocide bill to court the 500,000 French-Armenian voters in next year's presidential and parliamentary elections. Socialists also supported criminalising genocide denial."
Sarko he is Big Trouble
maybe Its best to fire a Missile at Paris.
Lets sort this all out faster.

Good for Turkey. France's new law goes against freedom of speech. The idea that's it's illegal to talk about conspiracy theories is ridiculous.

Play it again Sam, what is this about conspiracy theories?
The bill curently being voted on makes it illegal to deny any genocide that the French have recognised in law. (The Armenian Massacres were recognised by France as genocide in 2001).
Turkey feel they are being targeted by France because a bill with similar wording was thrown out by the French Senate last May. However that bill was more directly critical of Turkey over the 1915 Aremenian Massacre.

that's what i'm saying. conspiracy theories thinking that some genocides didn't happen.
It would be like the US passing a LAw that it's illegal to say that Al Queda is not responsible for 9/11.
Freedom of speech should protect conspiracy theories as well.
