Two people have been remanded in custody after a rail ticket inspector was stabbed in the back. The inspector, 42, was attacked just before 9pm last Friday after challenging two youths travelling without tickets at East Tilbury station.

Charles Culley, 19, of Tilbury, Essex, has been charged with wounding and assault. A 17-year-old, also from Tilbury, was charged with wounding, assault and possession of a bladed article.

Both teenagers entered no plea at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. They will appear before Basildon Crown Court on 9 March.

The inspector was taken to Basildon University Hospital, where he received stitches before being discharged.

Bring back the Birch!

The birch? Are you extracting the Michael?

Anyone who pushes a bladed weapon into someone elses body without due cause deserves something a little more than a smack or two with a twig.

A decent flailing once a month for a year might get the message over.

It is getting beyond a joke though - this type of thing does need to be dealt with seriously - I mean as in punished seriousy - no job - well, ordinary job like this should ever have to involve this kind of carry one, it's sickening.
