Think it's just more in the public limelight because of similar stories. It happens every year.

It does indeed happen every year, thing is google etc get better at linking stories.

Lots of people get stabbed, more so during the season of goodwill to all, funny old thing that, may be due to alcohol, increased pressures etc. who knows.

Saying that when people harp back to the good old days when things like that didnt happen, when was that?

Or is it just because nowadays we have the internet and instant reporting etc?

Christmas and New Year is one of the busiest times for A&E - people off work, drinking far too much for far too many days in a row, living with family that they don't necessarily get along with that well anyway, but having them all there 24/7 - stress of all that Christmas entails : it's really no surprise tbh.

Not any more than any other year I doubt tbh. It's hitting the news headlines most likely because there isn't a great deal of other news. This time last year, such stories were lost in amongst the Joanna Yeates murder - due to the amount of publicity that received. A few years back it was the Boxing day tsunami.

I doubt the figures are really rising dramatically - it's all just relative to whether there is 'bigger news' happening.

A murder inquiry is under way after the body of a 19-year-old babysitter was found in a house in Hertfordshire.

Police believe Catherine Wynter, known as Katie, had been stabbed. A post-mortem examination will be carried out.

A family member discovered the body in Beech Drive, Borehamwood, and called police at 08:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Two men, an 18-year-old from Borehamwood and a 26-year-old from Islington, north London, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Hertfordshire police said they were working on a number of lines of inquiry.

They appealed for information, especially from anyone who was in the Beech Drive area on Boxing Day at about 17:00 GMT.

Police believe Ms Wynter was babysitting her niece and nephew at the house.

The arrests were made in north London and Borehamwood, though not at the address where the body was found.

"It is not yet known when over the Christmas period the woman died," the spokeswoman said.

"We are trying to establish when the incident happened."

Chatherine Wynter, 19, was knifed multiple times at her sister’s house where she was staying overnight with the two children.

She was found dead in a pool of blood the next morning by her distraught mother when she came to pick up her grandchildren at 8am.

The children were found in the house with the body. Neither of the terrified toddlers had been harmed.

Yesterday police were interviewing the children to find out whether they witnessed the brutal murder.

Miss Wynter was last heard from at 7.30pm on Boxing Day when she made a last phone call.

Neighbours told how they heard screams coming from the £200,000 terraced home in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, late at night. But no one raised the alarm.

Police believe the art student was attacked by someone who knew her. Last night detectives were quizzing an 18-year-old man from Borehamwood.

They also arrested a 26-year-old man from Islington, North London, but subsequently released him without any further action.

Both suspects were known to Miss Wynter, but they were not direct relatives, police said.

A FARMER is seriously ill in hospital after being stabbed, allegedly up to five times, in a country lane.

Father-of-three Walter Keeling, aged 62, is being treated at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire

Police said the injuries were serious but not life threatening after the incident at Cheadle Road, Alton, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

It is understood he underwent an operation on his wounds yesterday.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and was last night in police custody.

Forensic experts were yesterday searching an isolated home between the Peakstones Inn and Alton village for evidence.

Villagers claimed the stabbing was the climax to a long-running dispute with Mr Keeling, who has been a farmer in Alton all his life.

Parish council chairman Fred Eyre owns a neighbouring smallholding to Mr Keeling and said the village was in shock.

He said: "I saw the police and the air ambulance and I thought there must have been a car accident.

"I was shocked to hear there had been a stabbing.

"Everyone is in shock. It is the sort of thing you expect in a big city, but not in a small village like ours.

"I spoke to Mr Keeling's wife this morning and she is obviously very upset.

"He has always been a very good neighbour to me and has always been ready to help if I needed it.

"We have always got on really well and I have known him all my life.

"I do not know what has happened, it has all been a bit of a shock.

"The police were there all Tuesday night and the Cheadle to Alton Road was closed from about 2.30pm to 8pm."

Alton district councillor Arthur Forrester said: "Mr Keeling is well-known within the farming community and is well-respected in the village."

A villager, who declined to be named, said: "I went past the house at about 7pm on the Tuesday night and there was a lot of police activity.

"When I went past again yesterday morning police had sealed off the house with incident tape and it looked as though forensics officers were inside the property."

Mr Keeling, of The Wuthering, Cheadle Road, Alton, was airlifted to hospital by air ambulance following the stabbing.

A police spokesman said: "The injured party received serious injuries and is still being treated in hospital. A man remains in custody."

Did boy, 12, watch as 'his mother was stabbed 18 times' in barbaric murder at Christmas?

A 12-year-old boy might have witnessed a woman being stabbed 18 times in a flat.

The victim and a man - who are believed to be the child's parents - were found with multiple stab injuries at the flat in Wolverhampton yesterday after concerned neighbours contacted police.

The woman died at the scene, while the man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A post-mortem examination carried out last night revealed the 36-year-old woman had been stabbed 18 times in the abdomen and chest, a West Midlands Police spokeswoman said.

Police were called to reports of disorder at the flat just before 8am yesterday.
Officers arrived to find a woman and a man both collapsed inside the address. A 12-year-old boy was also found at the property but it is not yet known whether he witnessed the incident, a police spokewoman said.

He is being treated as a potential witness. Neighbours claimed he had been seen at a nearby house covered in blood.

The spokeswoman refused to confirm whether the man and woman were a couple and how the boy is linked to them.

The boy is not thought to have been injured in the incident.

The man’s condition has improved and he is now in a stable condition in hospital, the spokeswoman said. Police have not named the dead woman.

A police spokesman said yesterday that officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

A 20-year-old woman has been found dead after she was abducted from an address in east London where two other people had been stabbed.

She was taken from Brownlow Road, Hackney, at 07:10 GMT on Monday, and was later found stabbed in a car on Ryder Mews in Homerton, police said.

Just before she was kidnapped, a man aged 22 and a 24-year-old woman were attacked at the same address.

The man is in stable condition, while the woman suffered a minor injury.

Scotland Yard said it had launched a murder investigation.

A spokesman said officers were called to a row on Brownlow Road but, before they arrived, a suspect had fled in a grey Fiat Stilo car with the 20-year-old woman.

This vehicle was found abandoned in Ryder Mews, just off Homerton High Street, at about 08:30 GMT, and the woman's body was inside.

Police said they believe she is the same person who was kidnapped, although they said they were awaiting formal identification.

No further details of the suspect or any of the victims have been released.

A 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman - Ms Treloar's siblings Dean, 22, and Gemma, 24, - were also injured in the incident and were treated for stab wounds.

Mr Treloar remains in an east London hospital in a 'stable' condition. A month-old baby girl was also taken to hospital as a precaution.
