The whole Anon thing is kind of confusing, yeah. It's like a franchise now. You have the hacker Anon, the Scientology protest Anon and the Anon who just like to post .gifs of dicks on 4Chan.

I've only played online once or twice. Gayz.

They're a bunch of hackers who like jacking off to V for Vendetta.

MTVN

They're "hacktivists" apparently, I don't mind them most of the time, you'd have thought being hacked before would have taught Sony to improve their security really so if they do get taken down again it won't reflect well on them

at the end of the day although it might be a mild inconvenience to the users, whether it's of PSN or Facebook (they've tried to attack them) or other sites, they're essentially fighting against the misuse of personal information by said companies. The amount of privacy we've all sacrificed almost unknowingly is staggering.

Scarlett.

This what they're fighting against, though acting like cyber terrorists doesnt help the anti-SOPA cause

Not yet, they were debating it before Christmas, a decision wasnt reached because some dickish senator decided he was bored and went on Twitter

http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2011/12/15/stevekingia_270x174.png

So they postponed it, thankfully until after Christmas (if it was before Christmas it would have been rushed through) I hope they don't get it through.

Yep, it's annoying that something in another country will affect the whole world's internet. Damn Yanks :joker:

It honestly wouldn't bother me, because I'll just play Skyrim for a bit and maybe just trade my PlayStation in.

That was never really an official Anonymous operation, they were pretty much all against it, it was just started by a couple of their members in Anon's name I believe

If this is true it would seem they've been quite successful

The SOPA issue is getting really interesting some of the biggest players on the internet have formed what they call a NetCoalition that includes:
AOL, eBay, Facebook, foursquare, Google, IAC, Linkedin, Mozilla, OpenDNS, PayPal, Twitter, Wikipedia, Yahoo! and the Zynga Game Network.

They are threatening that if they try and press ahead with the SOPA act they might just turn off their services for 24 hours and replace them with anti-SOPA messages.
The damage to the world economy would be massive.
Interesting times.

It'll be interesting to see how many big names join this coalition over the next few weeks. I gather Nintendo have quietly dropped their support of SOPA, but will they have the balls to stand on the other side. I suspect many of them will sit quietly on the fence.

I think there is a guy in the senate against it ready to filibuster it hard. It's a term used in the senate where a bill is talked to death. He plans to read out every name. But i think that was a very similar bill. He'll probably do the same for this one

Noah Antwiler from The Spoony Experiment sent John McCain a letter about it and got this back :

Dear Mr. Antwiler:

Thank you for contacting me regarding Internet anti-piracy legislation, specifically the PROTECT IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). I appreciate hearing your views about these important pieces of legislation.

As you know, online piracy is a major issue facing the American economy as more and more digital creations, such as music, movies, software, and books, are moved online. The Internet, which has delivered so many benefits to our economy, has unfortunately also allowed bad actors to steal and sell these stolen works. It is estimated that our economy loses more than $58 billion annually as a result of online piracy. As part of an effort to fight back against these losses, Congress has introduced two bills, the PROTECT IP Act in the Senate and SOPA in the House of Representatives, respectively.
These bills are designed to help the government more effectively utilize legal tools that are already at our disposal to fight against online piracy and protect American intellectual property. If enacted, the legislation would allow the Department of Justice to notify a website owner that the government intends to pursue a court order for alleged illegal activities. Next, the court would have to determine whether the website has a significant use other than the selling of counterfeited goods. These basic protections are designed to provide due process protections to ensure legitimate websites are not at risk for inadvertent violations.

The PROTECT IP Act was passed out of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary and SOPA has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary on October 26, 2011. Please rest assured that should these bills come to the Senate floor, I will keep your views in mind. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts on this important topic. Please feel free to contact me regarding this issue, or any other in the future.

Sincerely,
John McCain
United States Senator
