David Cameron demands music video 'age rating's

Prime Minister David Cameron is thought to be planning to suggest the introduction of a new set of regulations, which would see music videos issued with age ratings.

According to a letter seen by the Daily Telegraph, Cameron wants to issue the ratings as part of his government's plan to curb "the commercialisation and sexualisation" of childhood.

This proposal is thought to be part of a package of new rules that will also call for the ban of sexualised images in public advertising and the covering up of explicit magazine displays.

A number of music videos have been heavily criticised over the past few months for their use of sexualised imagery, with videos released by Lady Gaga and Rihanna in particular coming in for criticism.

Earlier this year, XL Recordings boss Richard Russell went as far as to say that there was an overload of "faux porn" in the promotion of female artists in pop music and that he believed the idea a new female pop star could be successful without being over-sexualised in promoting her work was "unbelievable".

This is ridiculous,when will these Governments realise that this is not what we want,yes Lady GaGa in paticular may go to far,but still its freedom of being able to do anything you want,but David Cameron will be voted out in the next election and thank god by the sound of things.

The ship has already set sail. Sex and sexual imagery in all it's openess is far too solidified in culture now. I don't think you can pull off some strange paradigm shift. And where does the buck stop? Virtually every piece of advertising is done through sex - the only difference being varying degrees of subtelty.

If you had kids - You would know
its needed so you can check what your kids have online.

Many Songs are like being Rated 18
as they have "How to Punk Ass your Girl" type rap etc
And it can change kids outlook

I am with you in the main on this one, the previous Labour govt was slammed by the Conservatives for being too much of a nanny type of govt as to peoples choices and lives, this lot seem to be going down the same path as well now.

I thought long and hard about this one but in truth,I think it's a step a bit too far. I am actually amazed that he even has time to even look at something like this, there are far greater issues he should occupy his mind with and he should just leave the music industry be.

Surely he has more pressing matters to deal with? Issues that actually can be resolved and where his efforts can be seen.

How about parents be more responsible for what their own children watch then there would be no need for all this "censorship". I am very PRO parents responsibility with these things (ie violent video games) and instead of "banning it for minors not to see" how about parents not show/allow their children the content what THEY think is acceptable.
