[REC] is by far the better of the two.
[REC] by a considerable distance. Quarantine is pretty average.
I thought Quarantine was ****e and I havent watched REC yet but heard it's a lot better.
Off topic but great sig and avy Stu :worship:

[REC] is by far the better film, Quarantine is pretty much a frame for frame remake but it lacks the atmosphere that made the original so good. It also simplified the potential cause of the infection which made the plot a lot more derivative then it was in the original.

REC is streets ahead of the crappy Quarantine, and REC2 is a worthy sequel.

Quarantine gets a lot of unnecessary stick. It was a near shot for shot remake of REC and fulfilled a purpose  Of course REC is the better film but to call one good and one crap is just an attempt at being pretentious. This is out and out horror, there is no room for pretension.

Yeah, it's what gives it that edge over Quarantine.

"Don't not like this film. That's just pretentious".
Superb.

Quarantine gets all the stick it deserves - it adds nothing new or better to the original, and in fact the horror is diluted and almost laughable in parts. I mean why even try to improve on perfection? It was always going to fall short. If people enjoy watching second rate movie remakes that's fine by me, but there's no need to label others' opinions as pretentious just because they don't jive with yours.

Quarantine was just lifeless which is to be expected as it was just a cut and paste copy with none of the love, care of expertise that went into the original.

It was never meant to 'add anything new or better', it was a near shot for shot remake intended to bring the story to a wider, English speaking audience - yes, an audience who cannot be bothered to read the subtitles. And I personally believe this is the only/main reason for the hate. Remakes generally have a bad reputation, and liking a remake or even just admitting that it wasn't bad (I feel I only suggested the latter, despite what "stu" says I am suggesting) is not cool in itself. You can use the "why don't they just read the subtitles" argument until you're blue in the face, but the simple fact is that the wide audience would rather see something in their own language, especially the Americans.
And I actually do not like this assumption that foreign = good. Of course there are loads of amazing foreign films, but I hardly think REC can be considered one of them. Just my two cents.
What do you mean "despite what Stu says I'm suggesting" you mentalist. You clearly said thinking one is good and the other is crap is pretentious. That's garbage. Just like the assumption that we only like REC because foreign = good.
I loved REC. I thought Quarantine sucked. A lot of people agree. It's not because we are desperate to have a nice pretentious wank off to a foreign film. It's just ... thinking one is good and the others a bit crap.
An opinion. One good. One crap. You're getting all this?

[REC] is better than Quarantine, but I agree that Quarantine gets a lot of unnecessary hate. It was going to get ragged on, regardless, whether it was unfaithful or too faithful to it's source material. It's not a bad film, but it's not particularly good either.
For the record, I will state that [REC] 2 is just about as evenly on-par as Quarantine is with [REC]. I don't understand all the [REC] 2 adoration, especially with it's cheesy finale. Again, not a bad a film either, just not a work of art like people have made it out to be.
