View Full Version : Brian Dowling: CBB & BB on C5 is "bigger, better and bolder"

Here's what he thinks about the show being on C5
"I think it's bigger, better and bolder, and it works - there's still an interest out there for the show."

"We're attracting a different audience. The show itself is quicker, it's younger, it's more colourful, and I think it's very American."

He also speaks out on former contestants complaining about the show being heavily edited

"The one thing I don't tolerate from anyone is that it's heavily edited,"
"I can understand that things are cut together, but when someone does something or says something, they've said that. You can't legally show someone doing something when they've not done it.

"I don't like the use of the words editing, I think it's just a cop-out really, I think it's an excuse."

I wanted innovation, not changing the show to fit the with current crowd of structured reality. It's still Big Brother, but it's not my Big Brother.

The kindest I can be to channel 5 BB is that it's... different.

As much as I hated the later series on channel 4, I'd take it any day of the week over this rubbish. But then again I'd rather BB ended in 2010.

Brian fooling himself and he knows it. He's a PR man in a PR world. Of course he is going to big it up. At least he is not as shameless as Marcus 'Evolve or die you retarded fanboys!' Bentley about it.

It's better now than what C4 would have probably taken it.

That's something that you just can't prove.

Poor poor Brian, this is not America and it clearly isnt appealing to the younger audiences much as I hate it and the ratings are more in the calibur of TOWIE.

I suppose it's a question of you don't know what you got/had til' it's gone.

I'm not fussed, it's BB at the end of the day. Not exactly the same but meh, change happens. I hate a lot of it but fans can easily ignore 2011 & 2012 if they want and there's still 11 whole years of C4 BB among countless CBB's and spin-offs to rewatch or in my case, enjoy for the first time.

I don't care, I am just glad it wasn't binned for good.

C4 was a lot better. But this is still better than no BB at all and hopefully it will improve.

It's definitely better on C5 then it had been on C4 in the latter years

This... C4 had lost its love for the program and didnt know where to go with it. At least C5 have tried some new stuff, some good some not so good.

But to compare it to early golden years BB is silly, nothing will ever match that, it was new territory then (series 2 & 3 especially), it just could never ever be that good again, the contestants are to aware of what it entails, the public have seen it all before (how many twists are there left to do?) Even CBB in its early days attracted celebs who wouldnt touch it with a barge pole now, cause now its considered the death knell of your career.

Lets put it this way, I think its as good as its ever going to be atm

Yeah, spot on, C5 did drastically improve on what it had turned into on C4 though, and I'm really enjoying it again

It only got bad with BB10, before that it was brilliant. No over the top editing, silly tasks, guests entering every other day etc.

I want it back like that again but I can't ever see BB going back to the way it was prior to 2009. I don't think Ch5 have done that bad a job though, if it wasn't for them we'd have no BB at all and I wouldn't want that.

Personally, I think it started to go downhill after BB5. BB10 could have been the best series ever imo, the HMs were legendary but C4 ruined it by lack of effort and stupid decisions.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. IMHO the last 4 odd years on C4 was almost pitiful to watch, the format had got completely lost. To many new housemates, the whole concept of the show got so watered down it was almost unrecognisable. The only thing which made it watchable from 2008 onwards was some great HMs every now and again like Markus/Rex/Brian etc

"structured reality" sums it up - complete with cast, plot and script ..... as for "guests" and similar product placement along with synergistic media enhancement ....

The one thing that I wish they'd stop doing (which started on C4 and has carried on with C5) Is the interference from the outside world- sending people in for tasks, sending HMs out of the house, sending in family members/exes as HMs later into the series, giving them messages from the outside, letting friends/family do their nominations.............you get my drift

Totally agree, I also think in later years when it became more a vehicle for fame they should somehow not allow the HMs to hear the public reaction on eviction night.

I think the format could have been fresh again if they'd just let it rest after 2010 for a few years. Maybe even a decade and then come back for a new generation of people that wouldn't remember it too well. Then people would view it with fresh judgement as a new programme and hopefully by then we'd have moved passed the current state of "celebrity".

Amen! The only thing I dislike about C5 BB over C4 is the glaring absence of Davina, the fact they can talk about nominations and Jamie East being involved in any capacity. Other then that, I've enjoyed it immensely.

C4 BB wasnt perfect, but I still watched it all the time because they had interesting Housemates and they edited there highlights alot better than C5 have imo.

I think CBB is good.

But for normal BB they really need to change the Format imo
