I expected Rosemary to be in the bottom two as well Suze, the first week can be a bit of a popularity contest, but was so glad Laila went, no offence to her, she is a lovely person, and didn't take it to heart, good on her for having a go, just wouldn't have been right for Corey to have been eliminated over her just to keep the "novelty" act in like so often happens with this type of show.

Next week is it everyone skating?

And yes *Kate* everybody will be skating next week.

I definitely think it's better than last years already, but I will have to see more performances before saying it's the best lineup yet,but it has got promise so fingers crossed.

What I like about Chico is that he looked so surprised at his scorings even though he was totally deserving of them. Also he only had about seven days practise compared to the other skaters, as he was a late stand in, so he did remarkably well. He could well be the dark horse of the competition.

Also I really like Corey as a person, yes he is eccentric and a bit weird, but he is also a nice person. I didn't much like the way Chris and Jayne were a bit off about him, especially Chris, they have become very big for their skates now, and a bit obnoxious. Corey may not be everyones cup of tea, but he has been through a lot as many child actors do and then find life harder to deal with as they get older and find they are not so in demand. He lost his mate Corey Haims who also had trouble coping with the leap from child actor to less film roles. He was a good mate to Corey H, he also has tried hard to get back into film work, and his marriage broke down, I think he was looking forward to Dancing on Ice, but not realsing it wouldn't be a breeze and needed working at.

Corey said after watching how well the previous week's lot did, how bad he was on the Ice and needed to try harder. He seems very sincere bless him. I fully expected as he won't be that well known anymore, and so won't have the fanbase, and as he wasn't as good on the ice as some of the others, for him to be in the bottom two and out Sunday, but he survived, so hopefully that gave him the confidence boost he needed and will push him to try even harder. He was working on a couple of films I think he said in between Skating practise, so hopefully that won't hinder him too much. He survived the first eviction, so even if he goes next Sunday, at least he didn't go first.

Men do have it harder because of having to lift their female skating partners but the females have it hard to trying to keep their positions in lift and the transitions into skating.

Jorgie is much better overall though...

Kate!
29-01-2012, 08:35 PM
I wanted Jorgie through, but am not concerned, she will breeze through anyway and is virtually in the final already. Stunning, and likeable too, not at all bigheaded.

joeysteele
29-01-2012, 08:43 PM
Watched this with 6 other friends and at the start before they all skated we all wrote down who of the pairs we thought the judges would save.

We got everyone correct, all of us, in my view it was just a ploy for the judges to get their favourite people through really in the main, even the ones being voted for by the public now still have a skate off for the pairs with least votes so the judges decide again who stays there too.

Either the public vote in this or they don't but this is a rather biased twist on this show and it doesn't need twists like this daft one,in my humble opinion of course.

Kate!
29-01-2012, 08:51 PM
Agree Joey, it was an obvious ploy to get the result they want this week, I think thats why they saved Seb and Matthew over Jen and Jorgie who will coast through to next week regardless, and putting Corey against Chemmy was a bit of a farce.

If they wanted to weed out the weaker skaters then don't put them in to begin with. Give the viewers more exciting contestants. Every year they have to have 4 or 5 weak performers, who we all know are only there to make up the numbers.

The fact they had Chico as a stand in behind the likes of Laila, Corey and Mark speaks volumes.

Me too, ridiculous, the viewers voting only decided in reality 4 of the acts who stayed, also I didn't like the format used for the performances.

A very bad twist and one that brings down the credibility of D.O.I. rather than enhances it.

Exactly Joey. I'm sick and tired of these shows trying to be different by throwing in these twists. The same thing happened with The X Factor when they threw one act from each category out in the first week.

I get that shows evolve, but sometimes I think they try and go for the shock factor and it doesn't always work.

Both shows use audience participation with the votes, but then it becomes annoying when the show dictates who stays or goes.

What I love about DOI is watching each contestant perform a routine, this week we were cut short of that. No sooner were you into a performance and the next act took over.

It'll be much better this week when all is as normal and we get to see them all skate properly, last week was very pantomime, with several skaters pretending to square up to each other on the ice, just silly really.

I like it best after most of the no hopers go out, and the last few weeks are usually awesome in terms of performances. I would like to see a change to the final though, it's a bit predictable now, them doing the Bolero each season, could a new challenge not be implemented I wonder?

Yes Kate, I've thought about this too.

Originally the Bolero was something really special, but as each year goes by it loses a little bit of the spark.

I'd love to see something different this year, although I'm pretty clueless as to what to suggest.

Sebastien and Chico was the two best last night.

I'm curious to why you think they were boring. I would say Matthew had toned down a little this week, but I put that down to having a problem with his back and missing a couple of training days, but Jorgie?

Have you liked previous performances from Jorgie and Matthew?

I normally like Jorgie but she was off with her footwork on her last performance.

Matthew I think is very hit and miss, and this is one time where I think he missed completely and I don't think two more training sessions would've made that much of a difference.

Spot on Visage, Chico stumbled a couple of times, though he recovered well, and if you weren't watching closely you'd have missed it. Sebastien is a bit too gimmicky for me, more pizazz than substance.

Jorgie I gave ten out of ten this week. Stunning performance. Really rated Chemmy as well. I predict a female final 2.

joeysteele
12-02-2012, 11:48 PM
I think the right person went but for the reason I was fearing for Rosemary every week.
I don't want to appear ageist in any way here but it is really quite daft to expect someone near or in their mid 60s, to be as agile on the ice and able to be tossed around in very severe routines on ice too.
Should Rosemary have ever fallen badly, the injuries could have been far longer lasting than to someone much younger.

Strictly come dancing for instance is very different as it is basic dancing on a ballroom floor but on ice the dangers are magnified massively.

Rosemary did really well reaching the week she has done, and to be fair, her skating itself has improved greatly since week one but the routines they are expecting and the standard demanded and expected is ridiculous.

Quite frankly, either they should adapt the routines taking into account age and stature, (like on the asssault course of things like Krypton factor), or have an age limit because I cannot ever see anyone other than someone in their 20s 0r 30s max winning D.O.I.

I do hope though I am as brave, determined and fit as Rosemary clearly is when I am in my 60s and really well done to her on getting so far and doing so well this series.

The whole thing was pointless, I like Chemmy but I doubt it would have mattered how well or bad she did, once the decision was solely down to Robin Cousins and it was seen that Chemmy was one of the 3 in the skate off, everyone I watched it with said even again before any of them skated ,no problem Chemmy is safe.
These twists are unfair and ridiculous as far as I am concerned. Time to cut the Judges influence not increase it.

However, it is clear the public are not with Chemmy so the inevitable has just been put off for likely another week.

I agree on that Joey, Robin definitely has a soft spot for Chemmy.

I'll be reasonably pleased for the girls team to win, purely because I don't see why Andy Whyment should go through again on a technicality riding on Chico and Matthews coat tails and getting double points. Girls team ftw.

Chico is Working Harder

The Public, though do not seem to like him
(ref: the phone votes)

I am not so sure that the public don't like Chico. I think last nights two in the skate off was pretty much an easy one to predict. Last week Chico near the bottom because of the team challenge changing the board probably spurred people on to vote for him as they were worried he might be in the skate off and go, This week he was near the top and Jorgie bottom, which could have spurred a massive surge in votes for worried fans of Jorgie and otyhers thinkinh Chico would be safe because of his board position didn't vote so strongly this week. Matt I think has the strongest fan base, and I suspect could well win this series. Jen is probably pretty much riding on Dan's popularity coattails and the bringing in of her littleun probably ensured some awww votes also. CXhemmy doesn't seem popular in the voting and so struggles to stay out of the skate off. So I fully expected a Chico and Chemmy bottom two last night, and wasn't sure Chico would survive it when the choice was left to Robin. However I would rather have seen Jen go over Chemmy.

I am pretty sure Matt won't be in the bottom two next week, if it's Chico and Jen, then I should think Chico would be pretty much safe for the finals. If it's a Chico and Jorgie Skate off though, not sure which way that would go. Best outcome for me would be if Jorgie and Jen were bottom two and Jen went. Because if those two were bottom two, in all honesty I wouldn't be that bothered which of those two went.

Yeah a ribbon looked the easiest prop but lets face there is not much you can do with it on ice. Jorgie can only do the choreography that is given to her and on that week T&D failed her, their responsibility and if they fail to listen to the Judges then it is their fault.

Everyone knows that Jorgie can dance but they want to see more skating, she has proved in a couple of her routines that she is capable of that, but she does not get enough of it in the routines that are planned for her.

Kate!
15-03-2012, 01:29 PM
I have to agree the props weren't up to much, I would have liked to have seen Jorgie get the chair, they've had that in a couple of previous series. A ribbon's just an insult really, but despite the blatant sabotage she sailed through anyway. I like all the final four, at least they are all really good skaters and no-one's made it through just on popularity/comedy value. It'll be sad to see someone go this week, I feel it's pretty certain to be Jen or Chico, unless there's a massive upset.

I completely disagree,Jorgie has always been underscored compared to Matthew I think, also I don't like it that he automatically went through to the final as he possibly could have knocked Jennifer or Jorgie into that bottom two due to him being aided through.

That's an easy one to answer, Matthew was by far the best on the ultimate skills test and he deservedly got 3 x 9.5s so it certainly wasn't favouritism. As for Jorgie she was lucky to survive hitting the ice coming out of the headbanger that wasn't, if Matt hadn't caught her she would have fallen for sure.

People only see what they want to see and criticize accordingly, so why didn't the judges even mention that in their critique but were quick to pick up on Matthew's mistake?

The most unfair result would be a win for Chico because he's not up to the standard of Jorgie and Matthew, but I shall be happy for whoever wins next Sunday just so long as it's the person who puts in the best performance and not because of biased voting based on popularity alone.
