Please stop
in a last ditch attempt to get her 6th #1 she's rerereleased TOTGA
PSWWVXGQG8Y
seeing as rereleasing it with a B.O.B remix and discounting it didn't get it to the top spot http://gagadaily.com/public/style_emoticons/default/crossed.gif

if I was that untalented and poised to take Michael Jackson's record I'd have a serious word with myself. Audacious.

She knows it's unlikely to get her a sixth no. 1, she's releasing it for the fans. No big deal.

yeah nothing says treating your fans well than ripping them off of their money with a rerelease

This is what most of them wanted instead of the remix, I remember loads of her fans on ATRL wanting an acoustic version so I'm sure they won't mind buying this instead of the lame remix. I seriously doubt it will make the song #1 anyway, the song was not even in the top 10 on iTunes last time I checked.

Can't she see how half assed TOTGA is or
Don't know why anyone's begrudging her trying to get her name down in history. Shaun's comment about it being "audacious" in particular - if you had five number 1 singles from one album, wouldn't you release a 6th single? Wouldn't you want to at least try? So I get a bit pissed off at people throwing that statement out there. Dislike the song, sure, but try and discredit her for doing what the rest of us would do if we were in her position? Sit down.

I think it's because she's milking a dead cow, so to speak. Releasing the same song 3 times is a bit audacious imo, it's putting in very little effort yet expecting to reap a lot of reward, sure it's understandable she wants a 6th number 1 but this is a very half-arsed attempt to go about it

How is releasing a song 3 different times "very little effort"?! Desperate, sure, but I think just releasing it once and not bothering to promote it would be the only way you could describe a song's release as having very little effort put into it... Of course she's milking it for all it's worth, but that's my point! It's fairly unusual for artists to get beyond a fourth single from an album if they're lucky, never mind six! She's been promoting this album and the songs from it for over a year - of course it's dragging it out, but for the sake of a very special and unique record, can anyone seriously blame her for trying? I have more respect for her doing this than Rihanna churning out single after single and then releasing a half arsed album to spin more money from the singles, rather than the other way round that Katy's doing of releasing singles from the one album to promote it further. It just has a bit more class and respect for the album she released, you know? Maybe I just don't see what you are all seeing. I don't think she's as untalented as some people are making her out to be and I don't think she's at all undeserving of this achievement. If it's not her, it'll be someone else some day - Michael Jackson's record isn't going to last forever.
-is tempted to create an account called KatyPerry and come in here and bitch slap Smithy-

Well of course anyone would want the record, but that fact that she had to release a remixed version of a song for it to go #1 (ET), rerelease a crappy remix and discount another song of it to go #1 (TGIF) and now this, sorta shows she doesn't deserve it, anyone could do it by constantly rereleasing their single with a different artist just for it to chart higher

Anyone could do it - and yet nobody else has managed it other than Katy in recent living memory. Say what you like about her, but if nothing else, she knows exactly what she's doing to get to where she wants to be - isn't that something we should be applauding rather than shouting down as being audacious or whatever.
And, Shaun, a quick google search informs me that these were the five songs from one album to hit #1 from Michael Jackson..
- I Just Can't Stop Loving You
- Bad
- The Way You Make Me Feel
- Man In The Mirror
- Dirty Diana
Neither of them are Beat It or Thriller, two examples you gave, it's not like the best 5 Michael Jackson songs came from one album and it's therefore a miscarriage of justice that Katy Perry has equalled this record and is trying to go one better. I don't see what the problem is. He'll be forever remembered as being a child star, then being the King of Pop, then his later life drama... Katy Perry is just a pop singer. He'll have the longer lasting legacy - she'll have one record. I don't get why it ruffles so many feathers.

Because noone else has tried by rereleasing/discounting their songs.
I think people also are too quick to jump to conclusions about what the two individual achievements actually consist of. Michael Jackson managed it in a time without the influence of the internet. Katy Perry managed it in a time with the influence of the internet. Both, in my opinion, are remarkable achievements for entirely different reasons. The internet can both make and ruin popstars - sometimes both. Katy Perry's ridden a wave of social media, media exposure etc to do this; while Michael Jackson did not. So on the one hand; that Michael Jackson accomplished such a feat in that time is outstanding; and on the other hand, that Katy Perry's done it while competing with every other artist who has the same means at their disposal regardless of talent etc etc, is also impressive.
I think it's just a matter of how you interpret it, personally. I don't see how they're even comparable achievements beyond being the numbers 5 or 6. Different eras, different styles, different genders ffs, they have so little to do with each other it's unreal.
