Imo, it dates back to the days when BB called the shots! When the name of the game was taking away their privileges to see how they could survive. When it was hard to live in the BB house. Not like now when then appear to have Food, alcohol and tobacco on demand!

Its to make more opportunties for people to mess with people's clothing. Look how many times over the years someone had played a prank with clothing in the bath!

With a washing machine those golden moments would never exsist. Also I remember the days of the clothes press when the had to wind it to dry stuff.
