It had something for everyone, from Rock, Cheesy Pop to Club Music - it was also the year Indie Music was appreciated.

No Lady GaGa. No Katy Perry. No Justin Bieber. No One Direction. No JLS. No Flo Rida. No Pitbull. No David Guetta. No constant Rhianna.
It was also the year real bands were popular and everywhere, and the charts had a really wide variety of genres in them.
2006 was clearly the last great year in music.

Jordan is right, her songs were great back then - and sorry but releasing about over the course of that year, is alot more forgiveable than having about 6 bollocks songs of her's out every few months.

Mr. Brightside was 2004.
I actually thought it was 2005, but I have an album that made me think it was '06, shall remove it now.

It was a great year in general. I remember the days of watching the old 4Music that used to be on E4 early morning before school (and was replaced in the summer with BB Live). The good old days

OMG THAT WOULD OF BEEN THE LIFE!
Watching all that great music and then once Summer hits, it changes to Shahbaz hiding cereal or Nikki, Richard, Pete etc in the house.

It just seems that nowadays, on the charts it's just..
Pop, Pop, Dance Pop, Euro Pop, R'n'B, Pop, Pop, Wanna-Be Rap, Pop.
There is no diversity, no variety, nothing anymore.

Yeah, chart music has never been great.
I hate the whole notion that modern music is crap. There's a ton of great music out there if you're actually prepared to look.

I do look, I'm not saying that - I just think the mainstream kind of music that gets radio play is horrible.
At least years ago, the 'mainstream music' wasn't bad - where as now, as you've kinda said you have to search for this kind of music.

Actually yes, fair point 2011 was a pretty decent year for music unlike 2010.
The whole boybands and Rhianna ruling it though is what dragged it down.

2000 - Good year, still essence of 90's pop
2001 - Good year, slipping out of 90's and into more new territories
2002 - Okay year but nothing special
2003 - Good year, the year 'sexy' music started
2004 - Also good year, Janet Jacksons boob malfunction basically paved the way for sluts and slags everywhere to start their careers
2005 - Great year! Some good songs
2006 - Good year, music starts to gain new genre's like indie
2007 - Good year, music started to go a bit too beatbox for my liking but it was alright
2008 - Great year, gave us stars like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, had best of 07 and 06 in one
2009 - Same as 08, only thing that ruined this year was it was the year will.i.am set out to destroy the music industry
2010 - Pretty bad year, gave us Bieber
2011 - Actually a good year, had some good music
I think the 2010's will give us more artists like Lana Del Rey, Adele and Birdy, making this decade the hight for slow songs and old fashioned clothing
