That's true. I think I saw the thread title, worked out why she was dead, thought back a couple of years to that as I didn't really follow how she was doing anywhere else, except the odd news story that I heard. All I remembered was that performance, and then everyone on Xtra Factor talking about it awkwardly after.

I'm shocked to read this news: though there was an article in yesterday's paper I think, showing her in a hell of a state coming out of a party and I though the same thoughts as you've put up Callum, it's like she's been existing for years, not living - just getting by and very unhappily.

In tears right now. Loved Whitney right from my teens always wished she'd get her act together. Hollywood is so fickle...everyone "liked" her when she was at the peak and she was abandoned when she needed help. I imagine it's just a part of the experience, really - maybe it helps to deal with the pressures of fame, being in another world inside your head or something. But yeah, probably peer pressure, or because it's 'cool', or something like that

or perhaps the fact being that being an addict - is a choice - as it is well known and long documented that drugs can lead to addiction: it's not news, so it's a chance they take and they take knowingly. No one forces anyone to take drugs - peer pressure is that, pressure -it's not forced upon a person.

We all wonder that but the comeback always is you can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped. This is true but also many people manage to get through with the love and support of friends and family, you wonder just how hard those "friends" really tried to help in the hour of need.

Back on topic though: I hope that rather than this bring the mood down for the Grammy's tonight that it's used in a positive way - ie: that Whitney would have wanted people to enjoy something that was a huge part of her life: the art of being a spectacular performer - which undoubtedly she was.

Bobby Brown 'Crying Over Whitney But Still Performing'
Whitney Houston's ex-hubby preparing to go ahead with New Edition gig this evening...
11:53, Sunday, 12 February 2012

Bobby Brown is reported to have been in "crying fits" after hearing the news of his former wife Whitney Houston's death.

But the R&B star is also claimed to be determined to go ahead with a New Edition concert scheduled for this evening in Mississippi.

A source told US gossip site TMZ that Bobby had been "in and out of crying fits" after the shock news broke, but his New Edition bandmates are reported to be comforting him.

And legendary music mogul Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy Awards dinner is also set to go ahead tonight at the Beverly Hilton, where Whitney's body was found yesterday.

Davis himself will not attend the party - and is reportedly being comforted by friends at home in LA.

He was Whitney's mentor and a close friend. She was due to open the event.

Sorry Bobby.

But man you both ruined eachother. Whatever recovery you had why didn't you help her the same?

I get the feeling that Brown is going to milk this for all its worth.

I can't say he is to blame: Whitney ultimately had a choice, but by God, BBrown did his best to make sure he dragged her down to the same level (and below) as him. Whether they were soul mates or not: it wasn't a healthy relationship nor a healthy love.

I cannot help imagine how things would have been if she'd never met and got involved with him. Not that that matters now.

I had a friend with a relationship the rest of us thought of as toxic, but no matter how long they spent apart the always gravitated back together. It was really painful to see it happen time and time again.

Did you read that in his auto bio he claims whitney is the one that got him into drugs?
Who knows the real truth but those two.
But i'm going to give Brown the benefit of the doubt and I would like to think that he loved her so much and he is genuinely so devastated that after the grammy performance he will grief out of the public with his daughter.

I haven't -but I'm always suspicious of autobiographies: given that they are penned by the person writing the book: and the info presented can be twisted to suit their own agenda so to speak. That's not to say it may not be true of course.

However, I am more than aware that despite popular belief that Whitney was purer than the driven snow - she in fact grew up with drugs and had a tougher (more street wise) upbringing that many realise - she wasn't some overly protected, coveted, pampered wee soul that many think she was.

I also recall watching a reality show with him mortifying her on tv by tellng the camera crew that he had to shove his fist up her anus to pull out what she was unable to push out through normal toilet means...... as he began the story, she 'knew what he was going to say' and tried to tell him to stop, that it didn't need to be revealed. She was absolutely mortified (understandably) - to publically reveal something like that was sick, horrible and disgraceful - and it was at that point, I saw he didn't care for her as much as it was perceived.

Bobbi Kristina
Denied Access to See
Whitney's Body

Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina got into an angry shouting match with police officers outside the hotel room where her mother was found dead ... TMZ has learned.

According to law enforcement sources ... Bobbi Kristina showed up on the 4th floor of the Beverly Hilton several hours after Whitney's death. We're told when officers informed her no one was allowed to see the body -- BK screamed, cursed and demanded to see her mother.

Ultimately, she was not allowed into the room and left. We're told Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick also showed up later. She too was turned away by officers.

As we reported earlier ... other family members and friends -- who were in the room when authorities arrived -- identified Whitney's body.

aw don't. :( Poor girl on top of being devastated must feel like people don't care about her mother. All those clebs are like "oh whitney was the greatest of all time we will always love you" yet are having a party downstairs while her body is still warm upstairs.

Celebrities who lead the life she did usually always end tragically, and she took drugs all through her career.

I think the reason might be that deep down we hope that they will pull through it and to be honest, for me anyway, when I think of a celeb I admire I think more about the reasons why I admire them and less about their private life so when they go it is still genuinely a shock. In general it's shocking when a celeb that has just always been there regardless just stops being there

daughter rushed to hospital

Whitney Houston's 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was just rushed to Cedears-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles ... TMZ has learned.

According to our sources ... Bobbi was taken out of the Beverly Hilton, where Whitney died yesterday, on a stretcher.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ police and fire responded to a call for a medical emergency, but would not confirm who was transported.

As TMZ first reported, Bobbi Kristina got into an angry shouting match last night with police officers outside the hotel room where her mother was found dead

Bobbi Christina is Whitney's only child from husband Bobby Brown. Houston and Brown were married in 1992 and divorced in 2007.

Just hours after the shocking death of his ex-wife Whitney Houston, the show went on for Bobby Brown on Saturday night.

The R&B singer, 43, went ahead with a planned concert in Mississippi with his famed group New Edition as news hit that Houston had died at age 48 in her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

After reportedly breaking down backstage pre-show, Brown (who shared daughter Bobbi Kristina, 18, with Houston) declined to join his bandmates for the opening song. According to a concertgoer, he then went onstage for the second song to massive cheers, singing "Hit Me Off" with gusto.

At the end of another song, Brown shouted "I love you, Whitney!" and blew a kiss to the sky, looking visibly teary.

During the ballad "Tenderoni," Brown broke down onstage, the source says. As he sobbed, he asked the audience to sing along to the hit.

Brown and Houston were married from 1992 to 2007.

Despite their volatile relationship, Houston told Oprah Winfrey in 2009, "I loved him so much...He was my drug. I didn't do anything without him."

Authorities reported Saturday evening that "no signs of foul play" were behind Houston's shocking passing, and her cause of death remains unknown. She entered rehab for drug and alcohol addictions last May.

I understand what you say and I feel sad for her daughter too..but I can't help feel very sad for Whitney too. It shows that however privileged your life may be or how good your talents are or what you could have or could be....if you are emotionally unstable, you may as well have nothing...as I think was also the case with Amy Winehouse. If you succumb to drugs and alcohol and you are poor...you will find a way to get them, if you are rich and privileged..well, it's easier. I am sorry that she's dead, but I'm surprised at the massive outpouring of grief for a woman who, while she was a good singer, had been a total mess for years and now seems to have been elevated to the status of tortured martyr.

This is my view too... A death is a death, it's sad because that was a person who loved and was loved by other people. Obviously as an iconic singer, she meant a lot to a lot of people, and that is a shame too. I don't think there's much point lamenting what might have been if she hadn't met Bobby Brown or blaming him for what happened to her - nobody but the two of them would have known the ins and outs of their situation and it's unfair to make him a scapegoat.

?! Anyone who chooses to take drugs has only themselves to blame. You can throw "oh but ___'s circumstances were so hard that they turned to drugs" and that's a valid point, if you want to try and understand why someone chose to turn to drugs. But it is almost always a choice. It's only not a choice when someone literally forces you to stick a needle in your arm or something, and I'm thinking of the kind of underground seedy trafficking culture when I say that, not talking about celebrities who turn to drugs. Nobody said anything about it being a publicity stunt, and how very ridiculous to compare -ist or -phobic attitudes to an anti-drugs stance. You've essentially just called people who think taking drugs are bad to being the same as people who hate other people for something they can't change about themselves. Are you born addicted to drugs? Only if your mother was. Drugs are a choice. That is a fact.

Party drugs tend to attract self centred people, and I think part of drug addiction is that the addict becomes very selfish, or at least is seen to be by their nearest and dearest. But you're right, everyone is different and you can't just tar people with the same brush - the reason why a homeless person takes drugs is almost certainly completely different from why the child of a rich socialite takes drugs.

Leanne rimes has become annoying in real life (well at least with what we see of her in the gossip) but this reminded me why I liked her in the first place.

Am I crazy or is this better than the J-HUD tribute?

The Westboro Baptist Church has announced plans to protest Whitney Houston's funeral.

Margie Phelps, a spokesperson for the church, made the announcement on Twitter.

In the message, Phelps wrote: "Yay! 2 pickets in NJ-Whitney Houston funeral & [gay marriage bill legislature]." Phelps cites the reasoning behind the scheduled protest as being retribution for Houston "stealing God's glory".

The church has also made plans to release a single titled 'God Will Always Hate You, Whitney'.

This is not the first instance of The Westboro Baptist Church holding a public protest. In the past they have picketed Elizabeth Taylor's funeral, Kevin Smith's movie Red State, and the Golden Globes.

Whitney Houston died last week at the age of 48. A toxicology report is pending.

Her funeral is to be held today (February 18) at noon in New Jersey. Guests will include Kevin Costner, Clive Davis, Ray J and Alicia Keys. The proceedings will be broadcast on certain TV stations and streamed on the internet.
