Right so this episode

I wouldn't agree it was the best of the series, for me that was the episode where the Governor attacked the prison, followed by the Episode Morgan showed up again and then this one, just because of the last few minutes though, most of the Episode wasn't great. I did feel a bit bad for Meryl in the end, he had a point about the bad stuff he'd done wasn't any different from what Rick and co were about to do to Michonne.

Sorry - but you're wrong Niamh. This was about humanising Merle, and giving him the chance to explain. The way he released Michonne was all about redemption, and his willingness to change in order to protect others was a complete change for him.

This wasn't an episode about kills - even though they made a nice change, this was a human story in the midst of zombie land. I was enjoying it before the last 10, and they capped it off perfectly. It also contrasted Merles humanity with the governor, who is practically turning zombie by biting off his fingers.

Yes but

It would have been a smarter move to just turn his car around and go back to the prison with Michonne and try to prove he can change by helping the group and being there for his brother

Smarter doesn't make the best viewing. He's the only one there, apart from Maggie and Glenn who really knows what the Guv is like. He wanted to end it before it got to that stage, and saw an opportunity to do so. All about the redemption, and Michonne helped him find that.

I'm not against non action packed Episodes, don't get me wrong (although I have to say I do quite like them) in fact the episode where Rick and Morgan were reunited was my second favourite of the season, I just think, like you said, they drew out things that could have fitted into a half or even a quarter of an episode and made it boring

I watched the Andrea episode, it was....okay. I liked the sequence in the factory between Andrea and the Governer but I thought everything else was rather uninteresting.

The Woodbury characters really can't carry an episode by themselves anymore.

Niamh.
27-03-2013, 04:53 PM
The Governor is the only interesting Woodbury character and even he is getting a bit annoying at this stage

Roy Mars III
27-03-2013, 04:55 PM
the show would be much better if it was just Woodbury, with the Governor being the man character

Roy Mars III

Kill everyone else in the prison side. Maybe save Beth for a song or two

Tom4784
27-03-2013, 05:03 PM
I don't think it was a good idea to make the whole conflict with Woodbury a season long arc, a lot of the second part of this series has felt like filler. If they're gonna split the series into two parts then maybe it's a better idea to do two different story arcs per season.

Last series dragged because it was all about the farm and this series is faltering since it came back because of the same reasons.

Niamh.
27-03-2013, 05:06 PM
The farm wasn't even as draggy as the Woodbury feud though because atleast they had some good Zombie action as well and they were more vulnerable, Season 2 for me most episodes were entertaining where as this Season has just felt like one long filler till the "battle" which i presume will happen next week, On the very last episode of the Season

Roy Mars III
27-03-2013, 05:06 PM
Having two arcs would be a good idea, especially if the second one was foreshadowed some way in the first but not dealt with.

It will be interesting to see where they go now with the story in terms of villains. I think Rick and the gang will follow the comics and go to Washington DC next.

What I don't get is why don't they just build a bloody moat around the prison or the farm.

Roy Mars III
27-03-2013, 05:13 PM
Negan is the other big villain in the comics besides the Governor, but he is too much like the Governor in the tv series so don't think it will be him

Tom4784
27-03-2013, 05:14 PM
I reckon this series would have been better if they didn't destroy the Governer's character in the second part of the season. The Woodbury stuff was interesting beause the Governer felt like a layered character but now they've just simplified him down to a moustache twirling villain which is dull. That and the fact they've completely piledrived Andrea's character in the process.

Niamh.
27-03-2013, 05:14 PM
Don't tell me comic stuff waaaaa

Not even at the end? Would you not want some sort of nice conclusion?

Roy Mars III
27-03-2013, 05:24 PM
I want something like in Land of the Dead, were they set up cities and start to live life as normal as possible with this as the background

Which is why I like Woodbury, as they were doing something similar

Roy Mars III
27-03-2013, 05:24 PM

Roy Mars III
27-03-2013, 05:29 PM
Or they could find a cure and get rid of all the Zombies but God would come down and Smite them all anyway

I just don't want science to play a factor because I think it distracts what's best about the show and it's the characters and their stories in a apocalyptic world filled with zombies.

Best if there was no hope and no cure, now humans have to adapt to the new world they live in.

Marc
27-03-2013, 05:29 PM
They'd all die

Roy Mars III
27-03-2013, 05:32 PM
They would adapt. It's only been a year or so since it started, and they have already set up towns like Woodbury. In five years or so then they would clear up cities. In ten or fifteen you would have fully functioning cities filled with people living someone normal lives (Land of the Dead)

For kids 50 years from now zombies and people turning to zombies after they die would be an average thing about life

Tom4784
27-03-2013, 06:05 PM
The thing about Zombie stories is that they typically aren't about how the plague started, it's less about that how and more about how the characters adapt to a new world.

The best zombie films and such rarely explain the cause of it all because that's ultimately irrelevant to the story.

Niamh.
27-03-2013, 07:43 PM
I like to know how things like that started though :hmph:

What happened in the comics?

The Prison Arc ended with Gov and his army attacking the Prison. They take over and in the process a few of characters are killed off or are left in the air including Lori and the kid. At the end Only Carl and Rick are known to be alive which is where I'm at in the comics. A Few characters that were dead at that point were still alive, The Dixon Bros and T-Dog are show exclusive characters I think. Also they never visited the CDC in the comics. They went straight to the barn.

You should read the comics Amazing stuff.

So, it's always good to take the time to watch a show and then see the episode leave things pretty much how they started. The only thing that changed is that Andrea became a real prisoner, rather than a virtual one. Whoopi doo.

I thought walkers were attracted by noise? Well apparently the only bit of noise in an echoey abandoned factory didn't attract them. America is a huge country and you could probably walk for days without seeing one, yet they all seem to hang out in groups in the places least likely to find any actual brainzzzzzz to eat.

I'm sure the finale will be a really good fight, but was this an episode that really needed to happen? It's lost the suspense. They need to be back on the road and moving around. I don't know why they just don't build a big moat round the prison and we can spend each episode watching walkers fall in. Can't be any worse. Really disappointed in this season.

What I don't get is why don't they just build a bloody moat around the prison or the farm.

Hmmmmm :suspect:

The finale - I was left pretty unsatisfied with the whole thing really. I did predict that Milton made it pretty obvious he burned the pit walkers, and I also predicted the group would let the governor's lot into the prison and ambush them that way. Both of which came true.

I felt the fight was too small, and considering this was what the whole season had been building up to, was just a bit s**t in total. I suppose they had to find a way of negating the fact that Norberry had about 30 fighters, and the prison only had about 3. Where did the governor go after shooting everyone? Because he didn't go back to the prison, or Norberry.

More people to care for next season could be disastrous. It's not really the size of a party you can travel around with, which means they'll be fixed at the prison again, as the governor will rebuild his army. I have a feeling next season will be a repeat of this one, unfortunately. I don't like that Michonne is turning into more of a wuss, and I thought Andrea's death, for such a main character was a bit of an anti-climax.

I could see myself leaving this show behind mid way through.

If I was Martinez or the other one, I'd put a bullet in his head. He's obviously completely unstable, and is likely to kill you at some point, so I wouldn't take that chance. Martinez is potentially a good character, so maybe they plan to move him in to the prison gang eventually, but too many great soldiers, and they have the opposite problem of their group being too impressive for zombies and rival gangs.

The only thing I can hope is that they've filled the prison up to eventually allow the zombies to get in and wipe out load of them without touching the main characters.

Also in the US there's a talk show to discuss what just went down on the show called the Talking Dead. It's pretty cool, the host, Chris Hardwick, usually talks to a panel that is comprised of a rotating cast of people like celeb fans and Cast and Crew along with questions from the internet, phone lines, and a live audience. It's live and they had the weirdest caller called Bob From Chattanooga last night. He started reading a prophecy or something and midway through the show hanged the guy up. It was hilarious. And Creepy.

Not really spoilerwise, The Guy who played Tyreese (Sorry, The Wire fans), Yvette Nicole Brown, and Norman Reedus (Daryl) were on last night's and they discussed the finale and what might happen next. Also if Daryl knew His Brother's Sacrifice for the group

Usually you know a character will die when they reveal the next week panel and Chris says "And A Special Guest".

If You wanna hear Bob he's late in the show.

your right about martinez he seems like a very good character and one who could join the prison, it would be good to see how he got on with rick and wether he woukd like playing third fiddle to rick and daryl.

I can see some new relationships developing with hershal and the newbies older group

maybe even a new romance between carol and the newbies older group of men

I am so sad and depressed that they killed off Andrea :'(

I don't understand why they are killing off all the main female characters. With both Andrea and Lori gone now it feels as though there is definitely a role missing.

Hopefully Maggie will emerge as a strong head female. If they make her get pregnant though i'll be pissed.

What a dull finale though. Really disappointing. Built up to... Practically nothing. The only good thing was that the Gov lost all his people

Tom4784

It was a terrible last episode.

The writing was incredibly flawed like why did they bring all those people back to the ruin that is the prison when they could have taken the town? The Governer continued to be a badly written bore and the whole episode hinged on the audience feeling sad for Andrea which wasn't going to happen after a whole season of butchering her character. Nothing felt resolved and, like the rest of the second part of this series, everything just felt like filler.

I was beginning to really dislike and not care for any in the prison. They were following Rick even though he was clearly unbalanced, they allowed him to kick out people who needed their help. So in a way they stopped seeming like the good guys to me.

I used to like Andrea until she chose to stay with the horrid Gov over Michonne. I didn't think the character could be saved after that, so I guess her suicide before she turned was a way out.

And I agree Dezzy it makes no sense them going back to the prison when they could have had the town, much more natural light and the place was secure from walkers.

Carl seems like he is a Gov in the making, he doesn't seem to have a concious at all.

Lastly I thought the Gov turning on his own people was chilling, it reminded me of those killings in the states and the one in norway.

I think they all went to the Prison because they were scared about the Gov returning to Woodbury

I actually thought Carl was the only redeeming element in this episode. He practically copied the governors words about killing or being killed verbatim. If the show went on for another 10 seasons, then it could potentially be good to see how he grows up, but otherwise it's something else that's just been wasted.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Spoilers Roundup: What Happens Next?

image

After March 31, there’s a long, empty road ahead of us until the next season starts, but we’ll get through it together — along with any teasers, photos, and spoilers that emerge during filming. Keep reading for a roundup of early intel, and bookmark this beast so you can keep coming back for more updates as the months trickle by.

FILMING & PREMIERE DATES: Season 4 filming begins May 6 in Georgia. There will reportedly be 16 episodes (just like Season 3) and the premiere is said to be in October, like the past three seasons, and they will likely do the midseason break thing again. (Groan.) We’re still waiting on an exact premiere date, so just clear every Sunday in October until further notice!

FILMING LOCATIONS: TWD shoots in Georgia, but if you want to get more specific, check outWalking Dead Locations, which shares photos and filming updates.

NEW SHOWRUNNER: Glen Mazzara is leaving, and Scott Gimple is the new guy. Here he is on Twitter, @ScottMGimple. If we’re all very nice to him, maybe he’ll share good info and photos from the set. If not, feed him to the walkers! Anyway, welcome to the top, Scott. Don’t let the crown weigh too heavily.

LESS RUN & GUN: Executive producer Greg Nicotero teased Season 4 to Entertainment Weekly: “I think there may be a wee bit less of the run and gun. And [we’ll] get a little more into some of our characters. The challenge with a show like this, when you have a big ensemble, is you don’t want any of the characters to get lost; it’s important that we know what Carol’s story is and that we know what Beth’s story is. And when you’re trying to service a lot of characters, it becomes challenging. Watching the first season of Walking Dead and seeing how grounded it was, that’s really important to all of us. Andy Lincoln and I spent a lot of time going through the scripts and making sure we feel that they’re grounded. Because that’s what keeps our audience coming back. The walkers and the gore and the action and stuff, that’s fun, that’s the popcorn part of it. But if you don’t have characters that people are invested in, you lose your audience.”

MORE CHARACTER FOCUS, LIKE ON ‘CLEAR’: Kirkman echoed Nicotero’s focus on characters for Season 4, telling Rolling Stone, ”We’re not going to slow things down, but if I had a criticism of Season 3, it would be that we didn’t focus on character development. We’re going to try to step it up a notch in that department.” He used Season 3, Episode 12, “Clear” (the Morgan/road trip episode), as an example of the coming tone shift. “We’re going to focus on fewer characters per episode.”

NEW LOCATIONS OR JUST NEW PEOPLE? Kirkman also told Entertainment Weekly the Season 3 finale would “set things up nicely for Season 4. There are new places to go in Season 4, but whether or not that means a new setting or new story direction or simply new characters I can’t really nail down any specifics.”

COMIC BOOK STUFF: Kirkman told Comic Book Resources Season 4 will keep moving in and out of the comics, as they’ve done in the past few seasons. “There’s going to be a lot of things that fans recognize from the comics. It’s going to be a lot of new elements pushed in, and it’s going to make for a really good show like it always has been.”

THE GOVERNOR WILL BE BACK: He disappeared at the end of Season 3, but he’s not dead. He’s a series regular.

MORE DANGEROUS ZOMBIES! Producer Gale Ann Hurd told Comic Book Resources the first eight episodes of Season 4 will remind us of the danger of zombies. “We are going to amp up the threat of the walkers, because they’ve started to seem like a manageable threat. They are not a manageable threat.” Huzzah!

GRUMBLINGS IN THE ATLANTA GROUP? Gale continued, “But, it is the people who you think you can trust who betray you, that you have to fear. It is the monster inside you. We all have them. How do we keep them in check?” CBR asked her to elaborate and she implied that someone from Rick’s Atlanta/farm/prison group would turn on him. “You never know who is going to, you know, who is going to be the one who’s had enough. Like, Shane saw Rick as a threat to their survival. He’s not the only one who’s going to have those feelings.” CARL! Sounds like crazy Carl.

EXPECT VERY DIFFERENT SEASON: Robert Kirkman told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s going to be different in a lot of ways. We’ll see a very different Rick Grimes for one. His experiences against the Governor and with the various things that happened to him in Season 3 are informing his character in huge ways. We’ll see a lot of familiar elements from Season 3: we’ll see the prison, Rick and his group are still in the same place but those elements are all going to be radically different. I can’t really get into it but Season 4 is going to be extremely different than Season 3 in some very startling and cool ways.”

RICK WON’T PUSH PEOPLE AWAY: Kirkman told THR, “This is the moment where Rick takes a turn; he’s no longer going to be pushing people away, he’s no longer going to be doing whatever he can to protect these people in ways that hurt other people. He’s not going to be the guy who would leave that guy on the side of the road — the backpack guy in Episode 12. He’s letting the people of Woodbury in and trying to tell Carl that these people are like us, you have to be open to this and the only way to survive in this world is to have people and be in a community. That’s going to be a big part of Season 4.”

ANDREA’S DEATH WILL MAKE MORE SENSE: Andrea died on the Season 3 finale, instead of keeping her alive for any number of alternate storylines. Kirkman told The Hollywood Reporter, “The unfortunate thing is that you’re not really going to see why this was a good decision and good for the show until Season 4. We thought having that tragic end to her storyline — having [Andrea] work so hard to save these people of Woodbury and find a peaceful resolution to this conflict was really something worthy of the character. It’s also something that changes Rick’s mindset and alters a lot of the characters and their modes of operation moving into the fourth season. It seemed like the right thing to do at the right time.”

Good chance I won't watch season 4 unless it gets a really good reaction. But I really don't care for any of the characters anymore.

I much prefer them on the move, like in season 1. Being stuck on the farm or the prison is dull as hell for what could be an exciting adventure.

The Telltale game is miles better.
