So what is true and what is not in this crazy world? :suspect:

Has anyone heard you can't sing Ba Ba Blacksheep anymore? Or that they switched blackboards to whiteboards as so not to offend?

Most seem to originate from a ridiculous facebook post and goes from there. Or the Daily Mail or course. Which ones have you heard and do you believe any?

Or the one where you Can't say Happy Christmas anymore, you have to say Happy Holiday instead

The whiteboard thing is true.

Latest I've heard is that they're revamping old children's stories. "Billy Goat Gruff" with the troll under the bridge is too aggressive, Rumpelstiltskin is about kidnap and execution so that's going to be abolished.

Also Goldilocks promotes theft and trespassing as well as Snow White being sexist.

Ba Ba Blacksheep one is true. It was banned at my little brother's school.

They changed it to "Ba ba white sheep put the light on" or something. Which is double standards imo. If you're going to go all PC on one colour of skin then you can't just use the other.

I think most of the kids stories started off quite brutal and have gradually been watered down over the years.

I wonder if this is mainly in town schools.....we don't have any of these restrictions in our village schools...ba ba has always been a black sheep and still is

What's actually the supposed problem with Baa Baa Black Sheep, I have heard it's about slavery but I don't think it is :suspect: I think most of these stories are exaggerated anyway, I doubt it's the norm for it to be changed to Rainbow sheep now, or for the word "blackboard" not to be used, if they do get called whiteboards it's probably because they're used more these days instead of the old chalk on blackboard

Whiteboards are genuinely more effecient in modern day teaching then blackboards. Using chalk on a board can be seem by some to be outdated. But many people now use interactive boards which do not require any pens.

I think it's all blinking stupid there ARE black sheep and black boards!!!! PC idiots need to check in somewhere and what are we going to call our little BLACK dresses?maybe we will eventually ban the word black altogether, some people really need to get a life.

I have three neices aged 9, 7 and 3. They've all sung Ba Ba Black Sheep at nursery, the youngest one still sings it. There are black kids at the nursery. In what dimension could a "black sheep" have anything to do with racism? They love fairy tales, especially the scary ones, kids love to be scared as far as I can see. They don't want to hear that the wicked witch retired to a cottage in the country and turned good, they want her screaming in those red-hot iron boots, being made to dance until she dies.

Red hot iron boots!...now im scared :( During GCSE English one of the poems we studied was called 'Half-caste' but we were told explicitly never to use the term outside class.

I would think the whiteboard thing is more to do with virtually every school using whiteboards and not blackboards any more, rather than being some kind of racial epithet. That's just "PC gone mad"-gone mad.

not having that!

I find rainbow sheep homophobic. :hmph:

The whole thing is ridiculous, especially the black board. The board is black, how is it even a reference to a persons skin color?

It's certainly true that more people are measuring their words more carefully. I don't think that is a bad thing. Why upset someone if you don't need to?

I do think some people take it too far though, when people just use common phrases and have no racist intention, but a minority group might find a twisted way to take offense. Like the recent "chink in the armor" controversy over NBA star Jeremy Lin. The idea that you can't use a common english phrase with no racist implication, but some over sensitive minority group wants to find a reason to make headlines, that is ridiculous.

But in general people of a majority population should try to be as sensitive as possible towards minority populations.

But some minority "activists" will always be screaming about oppression and victimhood, unfortunately the media subscribes to a policy of "the squeaky wheel gets the grease".
