Other than myself and Incensed, does anyone else like fine dining, hunting around for swanky little bistro's, and sampling the cuisine at quite upmarket and atmospheric restaurants on a regular basis? And do you like hosting dinner parties and concocting some intriguing and tasty menus for your guests?

Neither do I. The places I check out usually have adequate size portions so you can enjoy several courses.

I agree to a certain extent, I don't like pretentiousness. But sometimes, it's worth paying professionals, just for the taste extravaganza! Trust me, just try it.

*puts hand up* I do, there is nothing more satisfying than finding a great little gem of a place that does an eclectic mix of things and has a good atmosphere. The only thing that annoys me is that I have hungry eyes and can never eat all of what I ordered, so I have to just stick to one course and then it takes me to hours to decide what to have cos it all looks so lovely

What price range of "Fine Dining" are we talking about?
Benjamin
21-02-2012, 09:56 PM
It doesn't always have to be expensive, some of the better places I have checked out the bill (including wine and drinks) has been £40 per person.

So true.
Used to be a cracking little Italian nearby - nothing matched: crockery and cutlery were a mish mash of sets over the years, table covers were all different swaths of cloth, service was crackers with a waiter who was like something out of Fawlty Towers; but by god, the food was out of this world.
Was like dining in an eccentric Italian's house: the whole experience was always a delight and hilarious: and the food was to die for. Closed down when the elderly parents passed away. :(

I love fine dining. Do it all the time, well most times I go out I fine dine.
Found the most amazing italian bistro in Singapore this half term. The caprese salad was literally like a gift from god.

If you search hard enough you can fine lovely little places that are similar to the real thing, but that is in London and Edinburgh, I do not know about anywhere else in the UK to find stuff, I am sure there are though.
Real rustic italian food is to die for though, we went to tuscany and I died and went to food heaven.

It's not snobbery! I'm hardly a snob; I just love eating out and enjoy gorgeous food. It doesn't always have to be expensive or pretentious to be classed as fine dining.

Oh there are a few fantastic real Italian restaurants in Edinburgh  One in particular is sooo not fancy... its noisy, busy, plainly decorated but full of Italians and do just the best authentic food! (and its cheap as chips)

Ben you would adore Singapore, there are so many places to fine dine at reasonable prices and so many places are one of a kind. You do not really get the chains of places like you do here, it is amazing and so authentic.

In Tuscany we went to this restaurant which just looked like someones tatty rustic house and I will be honest, I was a little weary before the food but oh my it was amazing, the pasta, the meat, the salads and then the desert, all to die for. The greatest italian food I have ever had.

Yeah, I found in Rome, the best restaurants were the small backstreet places which really didn't look fancy at all.
I want to go back to Italy right now and stuff my face! :(
