It's a shame, because it starts off with a really gripping first half hour, and was genuinly scary. But then it became predictable and a bit boring and all good ideas flew out the window.

The thing I liked about the UnInvited was that it had a decent storyline which is hard to get in horrors also :

The Resident was creepy but wierd at the same time....it's one of those movies that left me undecided on whether I liked it or not

Me too. Loved The Haunting as well, the original 1963 version with Claire Bloom and Julie Harris and Haunted, 1995 with Aiden Quinn. Films like Hostel and Saw are just gratuitously gory IMO.

I love Hitchcock. He really knew how to build up the suspense. That shower scene in Psycho still freaks me out.
