View Full Version : Convert dead Mormons to homosexuality!

Causing a stir online today is a new website that invites users to posthumously convert Mormons to homosexuality.
The single-serving site is a rather candid knock at the common Mormon practice known as “vicarious baptism” or “proxy baptism,” which involves the baptizing of a living person on behalf of someone who has passed on.
LDS Church members have received significant criticism in the past for attempting to baptize deceased individuals who belonged to a different faith in life. Of particular contention are conversion ceremonies conducted on behalf of Holocaust victims.
Earlier this month the church was forced to apologize to the family of noted Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal, whose parents, it was revealed, had been baptized by proxy in January. Yesterday, a similar story involving iconic Holocaust victim Anne Frank appeared in the media.
The Church has since released a statement vowing to discipline “individual abusers” of the controversial practice.
I imagine this is largely a big "F-You" to Mitt Romney, given his stance on homosexuals, and a story circulating that he converted his father-in-law to Mormonism...after he'd died.

To be honest, and i'm not religious at all, but i find it weird that people could be offended by this.
To me it actually seems very kind. The idea that they are so compassionate towards someone, and so concerned for them that they would do this, i mean, it is kinda sweet isn't it? Or am i just weird.. I think it actually seems like a nice thing to do.
I don't understand why people think it's offensive. the person is dead and they are just doing it in prayer.
It's not like they are digging people up and stealing their bodies to perform the ritual. It's just prayer.
I don't see how it is offensive. I think it's a sweet thing to do.

Pretty dumb and trashy trolling trying to grab headlines its very westborough baptist churchesque tactics just at the other end of the freak spectrum.

The fact that other religions are offended by it, makes me think other religions are just very racist against the mormon church. What's wrong with honoring someone from another religion like this?

All religions love to argue and fight about who has the best imaginary friend.
As soon as they accept that there are many paths to Dog, then their set of superstitions become irrelevant.

Well dont say. If you are defending one faith its silly to then rubbish another....i hate all organised religion. This is disgusting to assume you have the right to 'convert' corpses. It does not sound very 'christian' to me...the soul has left the body they no longer have free will ergo its impossible. Its a sham scam.

The dead are not people.
I may be wrong on this kizzy, maybe you know more on this than I do,I don't though think the Mormon church just converts the dead generally, I think if someone newly converts to their Faith then would like some or all of their loved ones gone before them to be accepted into the faith too, then the Mormon faith will do that and encourage it to be done too by holding a service to recognise the lost loved ones as members of the Church too.
I have chatted with Mormon missionaries and really like a lot of what they do, they are very strong on family bonds and connection so although I myself don't agree with converting the dead, I can accept they would do it in repsonse to a desire from a new convert.
I hold Christian values myself but equally like you I dislike organized religions, however, Christian faith instructs that the dead are elsewhere, not gone completely.

I wasn't being critical of your view, overall I agree with your take on things. You made a very strong point as to the wrongs of organised religions.
I was just trying to balance my own view with the official Mormon view.
However personally, were I to convert to a particular religion,no way would I want or expect any of my loved ones gone before me to have any conversions done for them.

Now that sounds very much like a dig lostalex.
To mess around with the the 'principles' that a person held when alive - now that they are dead - tbh, one hell of a sick & warped sense of humour imo.
I am not religious in any way, shape or form but I happen to think this is extremely distasteful - regardless of how funny some others think it may be.

It was not the doctor comment, it was your additional 'like a pyschiatrist' comment and I suspect you know that fine well.
Most people think of a doctor as in GP.
As for me harrassing and targetting you. Given this was my first comment on this thread - I doubt that very much. I found your comments on here the most disagreeable towards other fms - hence why I responded.

on topic: people believe in what they want to: but to use their death
to try to alter what they believed in, whilst they were alive - to alter what made them the person they were in life: I think is utter disrespectful.
Those who died, did nothing to any of us here in real life....why would anyone want to faff about with this type of thing ''coz they think it's funny'' - I don't get it. C'est la vie I guess.

I'd rather people didn't believe in any of these ridiculous superstitions. The founder of Mormonism was a known con man.
If people were rational and treated each other as though this is the only life we have, so we need to live it well, then the world, and the people on it, would be in a lot better shape.
There is no tit for tat with ridiculous religious attire.
