Labour MP Eric Joyce is said to have punched several Tory MPs in the fracas just before 11pm last night. It is reported he also hit another Labour MP.
Mr Joyce set an extraordinary record by claiming more than £200,000 expenses in a single year in 2010.
He billed the taxpayer a staggering £200,986, despite having previously pledged to curb his spending.
Nicknamed 'Airmiles Eric', Mr Joyce clocked up £45,411 in travel costs. The figure is equal to nearly £1,600 for every week Parliament sits.
Only bankers are more greedy then MPs ....

I've had drinks in the commons bar, as one of my friends works used to work in the office of the deputy prime minister. Pints were on sale for £1.60 when I went.

Yes the now

"A Labour MP was last night charged with three counts
of common assault after allegedly attacking seven
people – including four MPs – in a House of Commons bar."

Sadly, his very foolish act brings more shame to Parliament and there should be enough shame already around the place to last for generations without adding violence to the picture.

There were guests in the bar, politicians from other countries. How does this make our country look? Labour have suspended him from the party, he needs to be expelled and a by-election held otherwise it will look like they are supporting his behaviour. You can't ask people to behave in a civilised manner if MPs can't behave in a civilised way.

I feel sure there will be a by election, it's not that easy to get rid of a sitting MP though, many Labour MPs in the 80s suddenly became SDP MPs and the party could do nothing about that apparantly from the books I have read.
He also has not had his trial yet either so like some of the expenses scandal MPs he could stay put until the very last minute. Unless the new parliamentary legislation now allows a party to sack, de-select a person and hold a by election, but can a legitimate result of an election be considered void due to improper conduct as yet not tried or convicted on.
On that point, until I research it more, over to the great Livia who will know far more on that one than myself at this time.I will bow to her vast knowledge on these matters.

Once an MP (or councillor) leaves or is expelled from the party, they may be able to continue to the next election as an independent. The party can expel an MP for bringing the party into disrepute... by, for instance, being arrested for punching someone in the Commons bar. They'll probably keep him suspended until he's found guilty and then expel him. A by-election can be forced though.
Actually, I met someone this morning who was in the army with Eric Joyce and said he was an monumental c*ck then, and it's pretty clear that he's a monumental c*ck still.

He was in Court Today
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2012/3/9/1331292542233/Eric-Joyce-007.jpg
He claimed a Tory was moving towards him
so he nutted him?
(if he so pissed off about not being in power he should nut Brown)
He also tolds the Police at the Fight to leave him alone
as he is a MP.
And called the police the "c" word.

He just came out of Court
and the Judge gave him 12 month Community Order.
He said he expected prison of some sort.
He is banned from that bar and is still standing as a MP in Scotland
until 2015.
(ref: SkyNewsHD Live)
"Eric Joyce admitted four charges of assault
MP shouted 'You can't touch me, I'm an MP!' as he was arrested
Fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £1,400 to victims at Westminster Magistrates' Court
Also receives twelve-month community order, is banned from entering pubs for three months, and given a weekend curfew
Will not stand down before next election"

Almost unbelievable but then sadly for some there are different punishments to what others would get in the same situation.
Totally beyond belief that he can be permitted to remain an MP of that full salary for another 3 years, anyone else would likely have got sacked.

Well the Judge is not there to Sack him.
Labour Must tells us what they think?
He is Stubborn
not nice when drunk,
says he was Elected to Serve until 2015.
But that was before he went Mental in that bar
and called Police the "c" word.
They should have a vote in his area
then we know if they still want the Punk.

I don't believe MPs are above the law but I think if I as a student did what he did and attacked 4 people causing mayhem and damage and injury then I doubt very much if I would have walked out of court on the day of sentencing.
Labour can only discipline him, expel him from the party and de-select him as they are doing, as their candidate.
They cannot though remove him as the duly elected MP, he could have changed parties mid Parliament and still remained an MP and now he got no custodial semtence it is unlikely he would be removed from being the MP until the next election unless he resigned as MP himself.
A fair few constituencies have MPs the bulk of its electorate dislike intensely but they cannot get rid of them and the Lib Dems did away with their idea of making it that constituents could force a recall of an MP so unless he goes voluntarily, Labour, the Govt even, nor anyone else can really force him to go until 2015 if he decides to see it through until then.

I agree with them,he should go now but still at this time the only time a constituency can get rid of an MP is when there is a general election unfortunately.

If they all went against him
he would have to stand down.
A new election could bring in a better SNP MP
At the Fight time he shouted
Its a Tory Nation,
well no its not you Punk MP
its LibDem as well
and in any case you just had your 13 years in power.
joeysteele

A by election may possibly bring in a new SNP member but it's not guaranteed, also a new SNP MP at this time is not wanted even by the Govt, which is why it is likely that this disgraced MP will be allowed to stumble on to the next electon.
Labour obviously,(now they are to discipline him by likely expelling him from the party altogether and withdrawing the whip from him, thereby virtually disowning him),would hope to regain the seat at the next election and this Govt, the Conservatives in particular, will not want to see a great new dawn of another new SNP MP possibly furthering the cause of yes to independence.
It's times like these that actually have the Conservatives and Labour pulling together at their very best to avoid any 3rd or lower parties spoiling their tit for tat, in/out,alternating forms of Govt.
