View Full Version : Big Brother 2012: Producers promise a more mixed selection of housemates

Big Brother 2012 producers have promised a “wide variety of characters” for this year’s show, after criticism over last year’s line up.
Producer Katy Smith admitted to The Herald yesterday that the casting for the previous series was a “mistake”.
“Last year we were very pushed for time and we didn’t come to Scotland, which was a mistake,” she said. “Channel 5 had asked for a dynamic mix of young and attractive housemates, though that’s as far as the instructions went, and that’s what we gave them.
“This year we want a wide variety of characters – as wide as possible. Big Brother is extremely important to Channel 5 and they are relying on us to make this series the best it possibly can be.”
Show producer Jamie Sutcliffe added: “We have some surprises lined up, of course, but it all hangs on finding people the viewers want to watch.
“We are trying to make it as varied as possible this year as last year was fairly London-centric and a fairly young group. We’ve learned from that. Celebrity Big Brother was a huge success and now we’re focusing on building on and consolidating that success by keeping the viewers who tuned in for that.”
Big Brother 2012 will start on Channel 5 in May.

I hope this is true they need some older housemates. :D

Good. Looking back, last year was actually quite boring in terms of memorable events and housemates. Even Alex, Jay and Aaron are a little dull compared to previous years.

ah yes the obligatory tory, not too many chinless wonders though, a broader spectrum of housemates would be great. Back to basics :)
Young and attractive is good though
But in the past some oldies have proven entertaining.. just as long as they don't go to bed at like 9pm
Celebrity Big Brother was a huge success and now we’re focusing on building on and consolidating that success by keeping the viewers who tuned in for that
Well, hardly "huge", but significant, in that it attracted a very similar, and large, audience for both runs (2.8m and 2.4m (ave)), while that for BB was almost derisory by comparison (1.6m (ave))

I don't mind Young and Attractive, as long as they are actually entertaining, Louise, Maysoon, Stuart (BB9) and a few others weren't.
They usually cast the worst house-mates when it comes to looks...
But yeah hopefully a few 'freaks' and older house-mates.
Samuel.

I was happy with the range they went for last series tbh.

I hope for a wide range of ages.
Not just one older housemate on their own, that won't help.

Harry was pretty rubbish though - apart from Bananagate he just spent most of his time washing dishes.
Everyone got along too well with the group last time - only Rebeckah and Aaron really seemed to have big clashes with everyone that weren't resolved really quickly. I want BB6-style conflict again.

I just want a cast with the drama of bb5 and the fun times like bb3.
Oh and the freaks of bb10.
Kizzy

Most people who act 'whacky' to get on BB are usually the most boring HMs. Having watched a few youtube auditions you get the impressin they think if i act like a complete loon i will get in. I think the selection should not be about how they act in the few mins of an audition, but their lifestyle. Interesting people, those who have experienced life, been and seen things..Not just older HMs all of them, it would make for a more dynamic house where they can occupy their own minds for more than 3 seconds.
I just want a cast with the drama of bb5 and the fun times like bb3.
..... and the alcohol availability of BB4 ..... ;)

They can show off all they want in auditions, but it's how interesting they are in the house that matters.:idc: Thinking back to BB12, if Aaron and Harry hadn't have been in, it could easily have turned out to be one of my worst BBs of all time. Because of those two BB legends, it turned out to be somewhere in the middle about 6th/7th favourite.

Freddie, Marcus, Bea, Siavash, Angel, Kenneth, Isaac, Sophia Brown and Noirin are just a few reasons for it's epicness. Most of the other housemates that I hated with a passion brought something to it also.
Only thing that stopped it from being even more epic was Lisa and her gang dominating the nominations, which meant all my favourites getting evicted, a terrible final and the most repulsive winner ever. Apart from those, it was a fantastic series.;)

Very good news although last years was very entertaining overall. Definately though, a wider age range and therefore better mix will only increase the entertainment value of the next series.

I really hated her with a passion, even more than Lisa and Charlie and those two were horrific enough. She should've taken a serious look at herself in the mirror and said "I see dead people":yuk::joker: after randomly commenting to Tom that Anthony BB6 was proper ugly in such a nasty way.
When it comes to legendary repulsive BB housemates that I hated, she is right up there challenging the most repulsive of them. If anything I would say that is a kind word for her from me, not harsh.:joker: It's no suprise that she was friends with the equally repuslive Danielle Loyd CBB5.:yuk:

BB10 was reallly hard for me to get into at first. It felt like freak central to me. A lot of the drama was annoying at first too but some of the stuff that went on was excellent.
For me I hope they mix it up well and I hope they don't let them talk about nominations this season. I know it's "fun" to hear them plan out stuff but to be honest I think it takes away from the show. I'd rather see them forced to make choices between other houseguests for rewards or punishments. Cause them to create hell for each other in the house to cause drama that leads to evictions. No more trick rooms or lame advantages like that.
This is definately good news as older people have had a lot more 'life' experiences, pick some with great personalities and they could be much more fun and interesting than just a bunch of hotties in their teens/early 20's, who have done very little to talk about.
My ideal would be several single hotties of both sexes in various ages from late teens to 40's for obvious possible romance stories,
A couple of old eccentrics, the obvious gay guy but not necessarily young, and 1 or 2 horrid annoying people for us to hate and shout at the tv about
tommy46

Yeh I think they def need to mix it up this year, I attended the Auditions but fell at the last hurdle, however I met some great characters including an Ice Skater, and a mother and daughter duo auditioning as one, they were really great, the mother was in her 40's and was sooooo hot, she would def appeal to the older audience as she was really witty and had had several businesses, and her duaghter was really hot and funny too, they had a bar together somewhere up North.
I also met other characters, who weren't just young and pretty or gay, though admittedly the majority there were.
I'd like to see someone with more about them as older people have been there and done that and would make great viewing, look at last celebrity BB it was won by a 53 year old who beat off the youngsters and as the main viewing audience are young, they must like watching them.

So a token oldie and a token Scots/Welsh/Irish housemate.
Isn't diversity wonderful.

If C5 are serious about casting more older contestants (I take everything they say with a pinch of salt) then it's fantastic news, older contestants are very often some of the more enjoyable contestants to watch, and after CBB9 was such a success with a predominantly older cast they couldn't really ignore the need for older contestants.
As for BB12 I personally didn't have that many grievances with the cast, I think it was quite a good group with only Aden, Tom and Louise being the only noticable duds. The biggest problem though was more then anything the types of contestants cast, which was on the whole very safe and not really pushing the boundaries of diversity, nearly every contestant in BB12 was either a contestant chosen because of their similarities to a previous housemate (Aaron= Alex Sibley, Anton= Victor) or was a stock character from 'scripted reality' shows (Jay= Geordie Shore, Harry= Made In Chelsea).
Hopefully after CBB9 production are willing to push the boat out and give us some more intreguing character concepts.

With a bit of luck maybe 2.5m/3m will tune into the launch and like the housemates then stick with it though because if people aren't watching from the beginning I can't imagine they'd be bothered to start from the middle of the series.
