I married a guy like that who had no clue what it was to be a good husband and father. We divorced when my boys were 8 and 5 and we have not seen or heard from him since, thank God. My boys never missed him, because all they ever got from him was coldness and "discipline". He's the loser, not us.

Today is Mother's Day and my now grown up children will be here shortly to make a fuss of me as they always do, and they will come out of love, not duty.

Better to have a bad parent leave forever, than for that parent to stay and ruin a child's life. Better for a bad husband to leave forever, than for that husband to stay and for kids grow up believing it's okay to settle every domestic argument with your fists.

..it's about kids who have parents who aren't so great..really messed it up for them...it's very emotive..the way it's put together..as if it's about one particular person..but I think it's close to the truth for...too many people. Probably a bit depressing on reflection..it's more kind of..that we all moan about our families sometimes..of course we do..but that's just normal..we get a lot from them too...but some people..all they ever get is pain and rejection and yet their still prepared to love them..perhaps someone could explain it better..it's a hard one to explain Jessice..because it really is a 'visual' message..can you not watch vids atm?

:hug:..do you think the children ever shake off the emotional scars...even long after they are 'safe'?

No, I think emotional scars remain, but I think it's how we choose to deal with the bad stuff that happens in our lives, that determines how much we allow it to "damage" us. My ex didn't have a great upbringing but he chose to be a victim of it and inflict his emotionally damaged self on me and his own children. I, too, had issues with my upbringing, but was determined that my own children would have as good a childhood as I could give them. Divorcing my ex who was a negative and hateful person in our lives was the best thing I ever did for them.
