320 BBC workers avoid paying Tax

That was on last nights Question Time,

Now these Workers in Admin and other places
get over 50K but are avoiding paying the high tax

A BBC spokesman said: “These individuals are not permanent members of BBC staff so do not have their tax deducted at source in the way the vast majority of employees would.

“In the main they are hired to do specific jobs for a fixed period of time such as directing, editing and other craft skills. When a person is contracted in this way it is their responsibility to organise their tax arrangements directly with the HMRC.

“This is entirely in keeping with HMRC regulations and is standard practice across the broadcasting and many other industries.”

You've got a grudge against the BBC Arista, of course that's going to be your stance. I hardly think "They are not permanent, it's their own responsibility to sort out their tax" [paraphrasing] constitutes 'covering their tracks'. And I don't see anything to suggest that others in the BBC are fiddling their tax...

of course its all legal avoiding tax
but that is not the point.

I totally agree,also the day any political party 'dares' to say it will get rid of the TV licence ,the votes would flood in for them.

The vast majority of people I speak to hate the TV licence,I don't have to get one yet but when I do it is one thing I will begrudge every single penny of paying for.

I don't really think we need the BBC, I read their site for news but it's no better than something like Sky news and the quality of programming isn't better than say, ITV

..I don't understand..it doesn't say they're not paying tax..it's not taxed at source because they're not employees

Not owned a tv licence for 10 years just ignore the letters and tell them to go forth at the door and there you go ;) they arent allowed by law to go over the threshold of your premises unless you allow them to and they cant take you to court unless they see a tv with an ariel plugged into it.

p.s. tv detector vans dont and have never existed they are a myth created to scare people.
Those vans you saw driving around when you were young (for the older and wiser ones amongst us) were just empty vans pretending just to scare us. no such thing has ever existed :)
