AN Indian footballer died while taking part in a local league game in the southern city of Bangalore.

Bangalore Mars midfielder Venkatesh, 27, had taken the field as a 73rd minute substitute but suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed towards the end of the match.

Reports claim no ambulance was available and he had to be taken to hospital on a three-wheel auto-rickshaw.

The Times of India quoted Dr Ajith Benedict Royan of Hosmat Hospital as saying: "There was no pulse or respiration.

"We gave him CPR and defibrillator shocks, but it was too late.

"There were no external injuries. This is also known as Sudden Death Syndrome, which is common among footballers.

"Maybe if he had been given oxygen or proper medical care at the time of the incident, he could have stood a chance."

The All India Football Federation issued a statement confirming Venkatesh had collapsed.

It read: "The AIFF prays for his departed soul. May he rest in peace."

The incident occurred just days after Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed while playing in an FA Cup tie at Tottenham.

Medics shocked Muamba's heart 15 times before it started beating normally again — 78 minutes after it stopped.

R.I.P. Venkatesh

I actually don't give a ****, people die all the time, why should I care? These people are just footballers not saints.
The only time I care about I death is if I know the person personally, or they made a positive impact on the world and are an actual loss.

I wonder how you would like it if somebody said it about one of your family members? I hope it never happens but if it did I don't think you would like comments like this being spouted around.

id accpericate them keeping it real, as if id expect someone to care if they didn't know them, as long as their not slagging them off, making personal attacks or kicking down grave stones i wouldn't give a ****.

No one should die doing their job ffs.

You say a Footballer isn't an actual loss?

Tell that to his Friends & Family.

ILoveTRW, I can understand your views but it doesn't take a saint to just feel for that person and his family for just 2 seconds. Heartless.

That seems a bit heartless and selfish, dont you care about your fellow man?most people ARE a loss to the world.

we allow thousands to die each week of starvation,
while we throw food away,
we dont really care how many die we just go on about our daily routine,
its sad that someone has lost their life, but how many have died while i wrote this post!
